In revisiting my strategy from the old cuckoos to the new way of raising cuckoos in animal stalls, I realized I had about 20,000 cuckoos in my barn. In my market they are selling for about $100. However in the farming quest they are valued at $153, So I traded in a bunch of them to level up my animal trophy and was able to leap ahead several levels without feeling the pain of trading in animals for pennies on the dollar for a trophy upgrade.

This strategy probably works best for those with a large inventory of cuckoos.

It is exactly what I did...I had over 40k of cuckoos and donated them to finish the trophy. Now it stands at 30%. With them selling below their EV and with the high quantity I had in stock, this was the best choice for me. I still have more than 5k in stock so that will be enough for any breeding event or quest we may get in the future.

I didn't have a single cuckoo in my barn to begin with on this farm, but still felt like it's been worth it using them for the trophy buying them from the market. Now I can sell my parrots instead of sacrificing them. xD

I traded all mine in too.

Trade them in for the trophy. Market value is below barn value so spend the cc's and level up the trophy whilst prices are low and the devs haven't cottoned on to what we're doing! I just levelled up my trophy - had 60000 cuckoos and bought the rest to complete the trophy.

I didn't have the great surplus that many of you had but I did get one more level on the FSQ and added it. :)
Still trying to buy more but getting the CCs is my issue.

Me too, just two levels off finishing now. Will put all surplus in after I have finished the event, just in case. :music:

I'm keeping (and will keep) a minimum stock of 20K of these "legacy" cuckoos while raking, at the same time, all offers from market at below 100 CCs. I'll do this till I complete the last and remaining % of that animal trophy. I was actually in level 13, and have already completed both it and level14. All in all, an investment of roughly 2M CCs, a really good investment.

I may buy some more after I complete the trophy: I feel that, at some point, people will run out of them; I mean, the "legacy" ones; that's why I'm keeping at least 20K of them in barn. At current prices in my mkt, feed costs around 700 CCs to make and 900 CCs to buy. It's a good measure of how good an investment it is to buy now the current flood of "legacy" cuckoos from market to upgrade the animal trophy.

    feelfree,

Almost all tradeable/produceable items in the farm have their own specific Exchange Value.

In your barn, you'll find it to the right of the amount of any item listed.

Lettuce, yes, has an EV of 1, and cuckoos, of 153. But, for example, rabbits, have one of 72; or monkeys, of 408; or maple sap, of 170, and so on.

What the trophy quest counts is the Exchange Value. Hence, 2 cuckoos have a total EV of 306; 2 cuckoos + 1 monkey, of 714; an so on.

    Is this clear enough?

I think most people did this. I remember a while back when an error allowed us to temporarily submit cuckoos for trophies. I was to new then to know it was not normal... lol.

I have finished off the Animal trophy too :inlove::D.
I agree with Aluntino and have been buying back anything under 100 cc and have been able to re-coup up to 18k.
Check your markets as in mine the food is selling for 1400 each. ;)

There's another reason to buy them and keeping a high stock that I forgot to mention before: the new BP trend in relation to animals in general and bred ones in particular, requesting them at every single occasion, puts a lot of pressure on barns and markets, renewed every fortnight or so with a new thing, either through a permanent quest or an event.

Thus, it's almost impossible to find any animal at a CCs/EV ratio below 4 or 8, depending on the period. Cuckoos ratio, bought at 100 CCs, is of about 0,66 CCs/EV point. A unique opportunity: bare in mind there are, from time to time, requests for animals (either in quests or events) measured in EV terms: what's best than stocking up now with cheap animals, just to amass a large animal-related EV count? Cuckoos at these cheap levels won't last forever.....

And, lastly, moustaches will be asked for in future quests. It's better to accumulate cuckoos now for producing them, rather than waiting till those requests pop up out of the blue.....

Something to consider....it takes 8 cuckoos to make a golden moustache. It is definitely better to have cheap cuckoos in the barn than have to feed cuckoos and the workshop to make the product. However, finally something to do with all our angel trumpets! Everybody with a ton of catalpa trees should be happy!

WOW do i feel like a fool, i went back to the barn and now i finally understand what those numbers mean. all that cc spent on lettuce having completed 8/15 for the country fair quest. average 1.9cc spent per point  quickly checking i find olives @ 0.235cc per point . around 130kcc lost. what is the best item to use for country fair quest?

It's best to donate tree fruit, not crops. I don't know that there's a single "best item", because markets (and market prices) vary. When I was completing that quest, I found that golden leaf was a great one to donate. It was relatively inexpensive in my market, and has an exchange value of 135. I think the cost of golden leaf has now gone up, because it's required for more quests now. But if you take a look at your tree fruit in your barn, you can make note of which fruits have high exchange values, and of course see if there's a certain fruit that you have a ton of. Sorry my answer isn't more specific...markets vary so much. But I have definitely found donating fruit is a lot more effective than donating crops.:)

Donations also depend at what your farm level is at and what you have open on Bahamarama. Maple Sap is good but you must be level 77 to buy it. With an exchange value of 170, it is quite often a good buy.

Aside from maple sap and maybe almonds (both of which are probably not even available to you anyway), it's hard to say which items are best for donation purposes because prices not only vary between markets, but also fluctuate depending on which items are in demand at the time (due to the introduction of new quests or new animals requiring certain ingredients for their feed).

There is no ubiquitous answer, unfortunately, and it's something everyone needs to work out for themselves. Tree fruits are definitely much cheaper to donate than crops, though.

Make a chart like this one for your market (preferably in a spreadsheet) and do the same thing for all the tree fruits that are available to you. Then you will have your answer. :)

Personally, I never went above 0.25 and tried to stay below 0.2 whenever possible. I used a combination of beechnuts, yellow pears, olives, almonds, maple sap... whatever I could get a good deal on at the time. I used to be able to buy beechnuts for 20-25 CCs but today, they would be a poor choice since they are currently going for 84+ CCs on my market.

See what I mean? Even on the same market, things change and what was once considered a good buy is now too expensive to use for donation purposes.

Whenever there is a FSQ need, the price will rise. Beechunts need again for new quest "What a Relief"
    so, price rise.

When I see that 8 cuckoo need for the a golden moustache , I immed go to my market , yes, those
cuckoo sold below 100, I buy all of them. then delivery my own stock to make my trophy go up
to 14, only 1 LV left but near 5million value is too much for me. Maybe one day I got twenty million
CC on hand. I will buy animal to finished it.
Now, my cuckoo stock is 8K, I will continue buy until I got around 10K stock.
