*Feeling sheepish over crossing the picket line. Didn't realize we were on a BP BB spending strike:pxD*

I admit, I bought seedlings, as the mystery events have always been my favorites. I bough 5 of each on bearbabe, and got a loquat, amherstia, and baobab (still waiting for the last 2 mainland ones). On spots the highlights have been another Blackthorn plum and a Tamarind, my 2nd :inlove:. Will see what the rest bring me.

spotsbox, you might as well use the BBs you currently have. Most of us are just not "buying" more BBs with real money. It's more of a real money strike.

    (Congratulations on getting a baobab!)

I spent a chunk of my BB's on tickets for Renzo's fair yesterday so I wasn't willing to spend many more today. I did buy one tree and got a XL walnut. Even a newbie like me knows that stinks.

I bought 4 Rhine trees. I ordinarily only buy 1 of each but I have been saving up the BBs and can easily buy a few more without falling too low (by which I mean under 200 - it freaks me out!). I bought more with the hopes of getting Amherstia.

From my Rhine trees I got:
    1 x XXL Elderberry :sleepy:
    1 x XL Almond :sleepy:
    1 x XXL Stone Pine :D
    1 x XXL Apricot :inlove:

The Apricot is the only one I'm super excited about. Already have 3 other XXL Elderberry trees and given their minimal use, that's all I need. Also already have 4 or 5 almond trees so this is nice to have I suppose, but unnecessary. Didn't even realise Stone Pine was a thing and not sure what I'll use that for, but it sounds good to have and I don't have one (new in this round I think?) But Apricots I really needed. Didn't have an apricot tree before this and don't like to buy my produce, I prefer making it myself. Plus, buying apricots for everything they are needed for is too expensive, so this will help a great deal!

I also bought 1 Jamaica tree and got an XXL Mandarin  Useless! Would have bought more but I have no room and am put off by that useless result.

I bought 6 (I had the BB) my first time for this event:

    XL Walnut
    XL Mulberry
    Blackthorn Plum
    XXL Orange
    XL Apricot
    XL Elderberry

I'm not unhappy with any of them but again it was my first one so while I had a couple of the trees I didn't have any of the upgrades.

I'm feeling pretty lucky, bought two for each and got a Sorb and Amherstia! The other two weren't impressive, but I don't mind! :)

  14. I bought ten of each, with BBS saved up, so actually this 20 cost me nought. I do buy BBs when I feel the urge.

However, I got a Baobab tree and mostly rare trees for the jungle ones. I got an XXL oak, five loquats (to join the 10 others I have), and still waiting for the remaining four to bloom into some trees.

I would just point out that Big Point isn't a charity and even they have to get their money from somewhere. Nothing, absolutely nothing is totally free - someone, somewhere has to fund it. Anyone who lives free is doing so at someone else's expense (yes, I know some people say they are self-sufficient, but they didn't start out as a baby left to fend for themselves - notwithstanding the reports of abandoned children brought up by animals). John Donne said it better 'No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.

So, even though this game is nominally free, it still has to earn money to pay the developers, designers, managers and other employees; plus the non-personnel and peripheral running costs such as servers, buildings, taxes etc. Despite that, it is possible to play this game without spending one penny on it, as long as you accept that you will have certain limitations.

Therefore, people like me who buy BBs, don't mind, because it means that I get to play a game I enjoy. I don't spend very much on it - not even the cost of a decent meal out. If I don't want to spend money, I just restrict what I can purchase in game - don't do events or quests if I think they aren't cost-effective, I don't have the machinery, except on occasion and yes, I'm fortunate not to need it.

My one absolute luxury which I do indulge is the special trees and even those I only buy if there is something I want - yes, I often sigh when I see the number of trees in my inventory, especially the rare ones. I would really like it if B&G came back, as I have in the past given them to players who I felt deserved them (my criteria for deserving may not match others). I did buy each pack last time and didn't begrudge it, because I really, really wanted the Kowhai and the Amhersthia trees. I got six Kowhai in the pack in addition to the one for 50bbs, so it is possible that someone, sometime will find one in their inventory.

Yes, I'm sure BP seem greedy; but no-one is forced to pay to play. Payment merely enables people to get more as opposed to some games where play is restricted UNLESS and UNTIL you fork out additional sums. I don't work for nothing and I don't expect my university not to charge; though we do have a scholarship scheme which does allow some less financially fortunate students to study either without cost or with the course fees covered.

I, also have criticised BP on occasion and I don't expect people to just accept everything without giving them feedback. I have been around for enough years to realise that BP do listen, they just don't always agree that what we want is what they want and what is either feasible or possible.

This is not aimed at anyone, though there are one or two I think do seem prone to grumbling just for the sake of it. It's that I think now and then BP deserve a pat on the back for what they do, rather than what they don't.

Maybe, on the other hand, I'm just feeling particularly mellow - I have a job I love, a whole day without a single essay to mark. The rooster is crowing in the garden and his harem are clucking softly as they root around the grass looking for seeds. I can hear birds singing, and when the rooster goes quiet, very little else; the cats and dog are laying in sunshine and a walk beckons later in nearby country lanes. I have a wonderful son and his girlfriend is one of the nicest young women you could wish to meet and they are extremely happy together.

    All's right with my world.

I don't mind spending money on the game. I have done so and will continue to do so if I keep playing. However, I want to have enough information to make an informed decision about what I am buying. I don't want to feel like I have been cheated, which is how I am feeling now.

I agree that taking feedback seriously is not the same thing as implementing something just because many players have been asking for it for a long time. There are other things to consider as well. And not not all players agree on even the most popular suggestions. I for instance do not want more space! There I have said it, now feel free to throw pies at me :p

Although I know I could play the game for free, doing so just to punish BP would not be much fun at all, and I would rather quit. Right now I am not spending any money, I am waiting to see what, if anything, happens, and will take it from there :)

Well the last 4 of my bahas opened up this morning and I got a Buddha's Hand Fruit! Yay! Unfortunately, no pomegranate. I guess I'm the weirdo because I want the trees available for the last time - I figure the rares that are new will be available again, but those ones that they are retiring? I'd like at least one each. Not a lot to ask...or is it? I just hate to buy more BBs...I have no pretense of playing entirely for free, but I do try to limit my spending and I just bought BBs...knowing I'd buy these trees. Phooey.

PS - Wish me luck. In RL I am on the board of directors for our local farmer's market and today is the big Spring Meeting and this year I have to get up in front of all the vendors and speak. I already have the jitters and the meeting isn't for 5 more hours.

HoppalongCassidy, I think most of the gripes are not really about actually spending the money and we do all appreciate that BP are a business and not a charity. Some people spend, some don't. I spend, but only in moderation. It just seems, and it is probably a lot more obvious to long time players, that over the last six months or so, the game has steeply ramped up somewhat with an ever increasing shift towards encouraging people to spend increasing amounts of money on power feed, tree's, events and animals etc. The game is advertised as 'Free', then once you get involved, it is like an addiction for some, you are well and thoroughly hooked and just must get that next thing or complete that next event. I am determined NOT to spend real money on the latest tree's. We had new tree's twice and fairly recently at that and my self-imposed budget does not allow me to do this a third time .... if it was in a couple of months time, then yes, I probably would have invested in some. You made some very valid points and I did enjoy reading your post :)

SewingLady ... Best of luck with that, I will be thinking of you, and I also have a number of spare pomegranite tree's which I will be more than happy to pass on :)
