Game Spouse - David & Lily

Three hours till date time, I need to get it together
Focus - think 'settled' - just like the weather
Time passes slow, like stuck in detention
I as nervous as a mouse at an all-cat convention!

Mum's ironed my clothes - I will look real smart
I hope baked beans for lunch, don't make me ....
My brother's truck, I've polished it all day
even cleaned the 'coon skin out of the tray!

I don't like this feeling - it won't go away
As nervous as a pheromone on Baby Boom Day!

I've been on edge since I got out of bed
Disastrous thoughts running through my head
Dancing tonight, Lily has to be led
and I hope I'm not hijacking Elemeef's thread!

Dancing shoes! Dancing shoes! No time to lose....
Shower, powder, brush, and rush...Eeek! Don't blow a fuse
If I'm a teensy bit late!
Sorry if I make you wait...
So much for a woman to do...
To go dancing with you!

 

The pickup
The day of the barn dance is finally here
I hope it goes well, will I say a quick prayer?
I borrowed a pickup from my brother Bruce
" Make sure you return it with a full tank of juice!
Be super cool when you arrive at her gate
You don't want her to know it's your very first date!"

I got there on time - 'Phew', things seemed alright
With an ounce of luck, we'll have a great night
"Lily's nearly ready, come in" said her mom
When I opened the screen door it banged on my thumb
A huge dawg appeared -ripped the seat off my britches
Her mom had a look, said I didn't need stitches!

Lily's big sister laughed as she loaned me her jeans
I must have looked funny - or was she being Mean?
And then I saw Lily - what a beautiful sight.
She stunningly glowed, - the new dress was just right
Her mum and big sister both turned to stare
Her radiating aura made my pain disappear!
"Bye mum" she said and turned to leave
As she took my hand, I forgot to breathe...

His country charm stirs a funny feeling...
He's here! Oh - am I ready?
What's that commotion?! Steady, now steady!
It must be just Killer...guardian at-the-ready!
He'll do him no real harm when all's said and done.
It will test this new beau to see: is he the one?
Can he stand up to Killer, as would a fair Knight?
Would he protect this fair lady from a terrible fright?
Time to go now - he is waiting at the foot of the stairs.
I'm eager to see him and how he fares
After meeting dear Killer...and see if he cares
For me still....I'll see in his eyes the answer they hold!
Oh! There he is, standing so brave and so bold...
What?!? My Sister's jeans??!! (I know them so well.)
We'll be such a sight at the dance!!!..But, maybe, no one can tell...
He's a man who is bold, and brave, and has handled himself well.
It's in his eyes, I can see it - and nothing else matters. Oh, yes, I see...
It is not fear, it is not Killer...His eyes hold a soft light only for me.

We are off to the Dance - is my step a bit quick?
Another glimpse of T-Rex dog and I would be sick.
The crowd at the party saw I'd brought the Prom Queen
Pinch me / don't pinch me, you'll ruin my dream

Five dances later and not once caught her feet
We clicked like a seatbelt, she's really quite neat.
A pause in the dancing - she talked with a friend
Me off to the bar -dehydration to mend...

She's talking and Laughing with Brad 'I've-got-a-porsche'
Rush back double quick before he goes too far
"So Brad, Porsche means 'offering', can I have some too?"
He tried to kick me, and lost his left shoe!
I fell over laughing, but Oh what a mess.
The alcohol free (almost) punch went on Lily's new dress

Now spilling is one thing, like three over par
But wiping it off! - is NINE Steps too far
The fire in her eyes, That Will leave a Scar
Through gritted teeth, I heard "Back to the Car."

The short journey home was a very quiet ride
Thoughts and Emotions were churning inside
Opening her door got me a peck on my cheek
Brother's advice, "Leave her alone for two weeks."

Dear Diary,
So much for an evening with Sir Galahad!
I am so mad, I have to talk to someone, really bad!

But he dances so great - never stepped on my toes!
.........So what!! He ruined my new dress! I don't care if he goes!
And Brad is just a friend - let's me drive his new car.
......(O.K - it was funny....his shoe flew so far!)

But his arms were so gentle as they held me so tight...
.......I don't care!! He ruined our night!!

But......Oh! Shut up!! I'm going to bed, and turn off the light!!

 

In the light of a new day,

Impression from another couple in the Dance

Look! There is Brad and Lily,
Her dress is full with punch, because Brad is so silly!

He lost his shoe
and the Dance room has turned to zoo!

David is laughing and fall to the floor,
but what a shame, Lily is leaving from the door...

But at that dance, I had eyes for just one...

Bruce said wait for two weeks or so
But that dance night already is so long ago
It's been five days, she still can't be mad
And if I wait too long , she'll go out with Brad!

Right, I've got two tickets to next weeks rodeo
If I do this right, She'll ask me to go
I'm not going to quit and I must let her Know
mum saw her with Brad ;oh my poor sad ego

What! That's Brad's porsche, parked in Lily's drive!
Kept going down the street, they won't see me arrive...
I'll give T-Rex the tee bone, I've got in my pack
That'll keep him quiet - I'll go in from the back
As I rounded the house it was starting to rain
On the clothesline - The dress! - you could still see the stain...

Losing all my will - I put the tickets on the porch
With "I'm sorry" note and my number of course...
Her Dad open the door - said he had to confess
I don't like you much, but I like that Brad less

So come inside now, and get out of the rain.
I'll go see if Lily will meet you again.
I waited in the kitchen, it was warm as toast
It still had the aroma of the evenings' pot roast
Lily flew in with a radiant smile...

"May I", said Lily," the envelope Please!"
I handed it over, with consummate ease
"Two tickets' she smiled,"how did you know?"
Oh dear, Brad has just asked me to go...
I could see she had both our feelings in mind

One ticket for me and the other for you
Brad can buy his , and you can still go
Our rodeos here are a really great show

I'll honour my commitment to still go with him
And I might see you there," she said with a grin.
And although the reason wasn't transparently clear,
I relished the fact that she wanted me there....

Just then as we sat at the kitchen table
Brad charged in as fast as he was able
My hand lingered in hers as she returned one fare
There was no hurry for it not to be there

Brad turned red as a tomato and seething real bad
What's HE doing here, yelled at Lily's Dad
My daughter can speak with whomever she needs
You'd better cool down, right now if you please

I should've known better, but I couldn't resist
Brad's on the ropes - give the 'knife' a twist
Hey beetroot-face! What's the matter with you
He reached for me past some leftover stew
You know what comes next when We make a mess
Like a moth to a flame: all over Lily's dress!!

Dad came in to get me, said someone was there
I said "Excuse me" to Brad, "I hope you won't care..
If I'm gone for a moment". I left in a flurry!
My heart skipped a beat, I began to hurry.
I knew who it was - I had heard him come in!
It was a while since our date-how looong it had been!

Skipping to the kitchen, I moved in a rush...
'Slow down! Slow down! And do Not gush!!
Be calm and cool, he must not ever know
How you cried in your pillow; the tears did flow.

"Hi, stranger. Haven't seen you in a while."
(She couldn't help it, she smiled such a smile!)
They talked for a bit, and plans they did make
When she heard a commotion that made the house shake!
In stormed Brad - he had heard David speak!

He saw our hands touching - my heart then went weak
For Brad was my friend, I did not want him hurt!
But he saw us touching, got mad, said I flirt!!
That was all David needed, and I saw him get riled!
They stood face to face near where the dishes were piled...
I had to do something, but what? I did not know.
How to stop this! What to do! What I needed was a hero....

 

I knew the kitchen situation was as crazy as could be
Plates, stew, something was thrown just past me
Judging would be done, who fought and who ran...
I had to come out of this, the better man.

Lily stood still, looking down at her dress
The light from her eyes dimmed into distress
I held her smooth shoulders, turned her t'ward the hall
A pan hit my head and I started to fall

Lily's Dad pushed Brad outside, into the rain
It was just in time b'fore he hit me again
Next thing I knew it was just Lily and me
A sponge on my head, and a hot cuppa tea

Thank heavens she said, don't need any more drama
and we turned on our laptops to play Farmerama!!!

A day to remember.....A day to forget!
David's poor head...and another dress wet!!

Brad's making trouble, and David won't quit
Running his mouth till Brad takes the bit!
When those boys are together - Oh what a pain!
Until they can stop it, I won't date them again!

But...David's hands held my shoulders and I turned red
........From shoulders to cheeks to feet it did spread...
I don't care! Another dress ruined! I'll have nothing to wear..
........If this keeps up, I'll be going around bare!!

But....his touch was so gentle as he turned me around...
....As if I was precious as any jewel to be found...

Oh! Stop it stop it stop it!!! Have you lost your mind??
Turn out the light! Go to bed!...*...but he's gentle and kind....*

I should've known how irate Lily can get
It wasn't the first time I'd got her dress wet
I must go say sorry, I feel really feel stink
Especially today: I got a bee that was pink!

I went and saw her , she'd been crying, I think
I did this to her, I'm a rotten rat-fink
"Thanks for saying sorry" she said as I left
But it wasn't enough, she still looked bereft

Later outside her window, I sung her a song
"Please forgive me for all the stuff I done wrong"
As I strummed my guitar, some cat gave a howl
and a sound like a wounded wolf on the prowl.

Now when choosing a place to sing in the night
It's important - some research to get it just right
You don't want to stand out like a bump on a log
Or go somewhere with a Killer T-Rex Dog!
