dnin21cent, I've got a similar plan. I'm going to use it to restock crops on 1x1s with a CAC.

 

Mill subscription ran out before I finished milling, so I'm still going!

 

i was halfway through writing a similar post to ask if it can also skip backwards, i only have 6 breeding pens working and 3 went backwards. i was trying to keep calm and not rant but i couldnt do it, walked away and never posted. a full field pnp and so many go backwards, thats insane, a ton of cc's lost.
i had bought a lot of brown pigs @ 1k cc on my market before the event. i was selling wooly and pot bellied to buy wart hog pigs yesterday on my market. but today prices have come back down for wooly and potbellied.

decided to do 3rd step, this will end my supply of powerfeed. i hit 500k cc's today, thats a first for me, then quickly dropped to under 200k lol.

 

I finished the event yesterday, happy to have been able to complete that. Now I've just been breeding like crazy as I've been waiting for the BBD. I'm focusing primarily on chickens and rabbits and working on those two breeding quests. I did also do a portion of the magical beanstalk special quest up to the hungry bats that will have to wait till next time since I only just got the bat roost from that quest.

I've made a bit of CC's on the side selling some of the stock and a few breeding animals as well. I've still got lots of breeding to do before tomorrow but all in all I'm feeling this was pretty successful for my first breeding event and BBD.

Lots of fun as well and I'm enjoying reading about all the skips everyone else is getting. I think my best was a flaming steer from 4 regular cows, I also got a snowy bunny from 4 regular bunnies.

 

LDCrow, you can buy basic bats and albino bats in the market for reasonable prices. I would concentrate on opening Bat Breeding during MM. Without that, you will need to buy your 3 Hungry bats.

 

pnp, I went and checked the FAQ because I could've sworn breeding should give the next animal and found this:

• Which 4 coloured animals you want to breed (knowing that 4 of the same colour give the next best breed)

So I think you should get the techies to check it out for you.

 

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this skip is definitely worth a picture!



This pretty pony is now safely in a pen in my park where he awaits my progress in the Soup N Friends quest.

(That's 1 Halflinger, 4 horses, baby horse and a Picasso horse from for regular horses.)

 

From the colored pig FAQ:

4 Wooly pigs will "normally" produce 1 Pot-bellied pig
...
it's possible to get a "skip" to a higher valued animal!

I guess it doesn't say explicitly that you can't get a lower animal, but I always thought that was implied

 

Seems like there's conflicting FAQ's then, Mir - so in the general one it says you will get the next one and in the coloured animals one the wording is ambiguous...
Oh please don't tell me this is another of their little fixes!

I've been getting lower or the same animals the whole time! Turn in 4 fish, get back 2 fish, no upgrade- NOTHING! Some have been nice, but the majority have been lower level, or a return of only two of the original offering.

 

Just a thought labmommy but check your barn under breeding to check if your coloured animals have turned up there - you should definitely get at least one so it could be a visual glitch.

The higher animals I've breed have all come back with 1 higher animal and then 1 lower or 2 of the original. For example 4 mustangs gave me 1 sea horse and 1 halflinger. I did just manage to get that last breeding rune opened so I'm looking forward to the extra animals in my next round.

 

Is that in addition to the first animal pictured? What you get back isn't always in "normal, skip/twin" listing order. Can you show us a screen print like the one above?

The picture above shows on the first line 4 halflingers turned into 2 Shetlands (next level up twins) and the baby horse for the event. One Shetland is the "normal" result, the second is the "twin/skip" in this case a twin. You can hover over the animal with your mouse to see which one(s) you are getting.

The second line shows 4 halflingers turned into 1 Shetland (normal), 1 halflinger (skip/twin) where the twin is a lower level, 1 baby horse (event) and 2 regular horses (the result of the rune referred to earlier).

The third line is 4 regular horses turned into 1 halflinger (normal), 1 baby (event), one Picasso (skip and in this case, the highest skip) and 4 horses (rune).

The fourth line is 4 shetlands turned into 1 Seahorse (normal), 1 baby (event) and one halflinger (twin but lower).

 

You get the one you are "supposed" to get, but the second one is random. It may be lower or higher.. that is what it says and it is what I experience. I seem to get better returns in the magic glade, but that might be just perception.

The slightly confusing part is that you can get "skips" in any normal breeding. That is even without BBD, you can get a higher level animal (not a lower level one) And there is also a rune that gives you a chance of getting 4 extra base animals.

 

I checked the barn, not there. I didn't do any screen grabs or even think about it when it was happening. I got poor results so many times that I have stopped breeding all together. I dabble with it from time to time, but really just buy them for the FSQs anyway. Before the next BBD I will have that last rune on the breeding limb, so I'll see then if it makes any difference.
