Game Spouse - David & Lily

Oh, David, David - what shall I do?
You're song was so sweet..I want to go with you
To the Rodeo. But how can I do that after what I have said?
I'll have to think it through - oh, my aching head!!

But 'tomorrow is another day'...
Perhaps I'll find another way........

 

I'm off to see Lily, about the rodeo
she hasn't said yes , but she hasn't said No
I am almost certain she does want to go,
Only one way to find out : I need to know

I've got no cash spare to buy any hothouse flowers
I found wildies by the wood, went picking for hours
I've never seen such cute blooms, so small in size
Look at all the bright colours, some just like her eyes
in some lights, they shone like clear emerald green,
in another, turquoise and silver flecks could be seen


"Will she want to see me?" I thought with alarm
I knocked only once and she grabbed at my arm
Are All those for me, she gasped with delight
Rodeo plans instantly settled , we talked into the night

We sat on the porch swing in the starry moonlight
Her hands safe in mine, not too loose or too tight
All dress wrecking events were forgotten - out of mind
She was so stunningly pretty, one of a kind.

Dear Diary,

David came by yesterday!!
So happy to see him I almost yelled 'YaaaY!!
I ran to the door so he could come in ...
Oh! So many flowers it was almost a sin!

They were so gorgeous...but so were his eyes,
Like deep blue oceans and midnight skies
Fringed with black lashes so long and so thick
I knew I was in trouble, wanted to give him a kick!!

We sat on the porch and talked of many things...
I hardly remember...the music in my heart sings
So loud! The feel of his hands as they held mine in his
Makes the blood rush to my head and everything go 'fizz'!!

Tomorrow's the day - just our second date...
There's so much to do, I don't want to be late!
Shower, powder, brush, put out jeans,belt and boots,
Make a picnic basket full of bread, cheese, and fruits

He said we'd go to the lake right after the show
Where we'd go canoeing and he'd teach me how
To catch fish for our dinner, and he'd do the bait!
This will be so much fun - I can hardly wait!!

 

Just a quick interruption to say just how much I'm enjoying this little courtship. So fun and cute. Now back to your next excursion.

Here is my plan for Rodeo day!
go pick up Lily and we're on our way
Take Killer to Wolfies on the way there
We will get there with time to spare
I'm so excited since the 'Yes' last night
Lily and me, it even Sounds Right!

WOW, there is Lily looking a rodeo treat
Stetson, frilled jacket, riding boots on her feet
I could see what she was planning and Dad couldn't know
The glove in her pocket, wasn't just there for show...
Off down the road as I turned on the charm
But crash! Bruce's truck had a broke steering arm...

Time ticked by when I called for a tow
I have to face facts; Lily had to go
She wanted to ride in the amateur event
And on cue Brad's car came around the bend

It's not very often I'm pleased to see Brad
This was The exception - Lily's dream to be had
I (yes me!) asked if she could have a lift
He looked as if I'd given him a magical gift
Lily said goodbye with a kiss on the cheek
I'm not really counting, but that's nine in a week!

Golden Gate bridge wasn't as wide as Brad's smile
And no denying; Lily would arrive in style
it's time for the amateurs, Lily couldn't see me
She mounted a mustang as fierce as can be
Out the gate! Hit the deck in 2 seconds flat!
And to make matters worse; got a hoof through her hat...

Other guys and no girls, tried, some were just great
Lily wanted a second chance and stood by the gate
"Come on!" yelled the crowd - "a rematch please, mate"
Oh, OK then, go decide your fate
Lily remounted - I yelled "Go T-Rex go!"
Her smile widened - she was ready to show!

8 seconds later the crowd roared with glee!
16 seconds and Lily still rode, wild and free
24 - the mustang was as quiet as the wings of a dove
Lily's dismount was perfect: all the cowpokes fell in love

Later, still buzzing, Lily crossed a vacant lot
A longhorn filled yard, they got spooked by a shot
She had nowhere to run and Lily seemed doomed
I saw what was happening as destiny loomed
A nearby cowboy sat on a huge big white horse
I pushed him off, mounted, and set a straight course

She saw me coming and grabbed onto my arm
A horn nicked my leg, but She came to no harm
A nearby Morgan horse conveniently placed
put Lily upon it and together we raced
And turned the stampede as great cowboys can do
An ever tightening circle from an over head view

"Keep them horses for the rest of the day!
We're so grateful," Event Bosses did say
So as the shadows lengthened we rode up to the lake
To enjoy Lily's picnic she'd had time to make...

I didn't understand completely what Lily did. What is the rodeo amateur event?

 

With the reference to a mustang it was either saddle bronc riding or bareback bronc riding.

Basically they put you up on the back of a bucking horse in one you have a saddle and the other just a rope to hold onto. You have to stay on for 8 seconds to get a score of any kind. Scoring is based on how well you ride. One hand in air at all times, spurring (this is kicking they don't use real spurs) and overall style. It's hard, crazy and incredibly dangerous but not nearly as crazy as bull riding.

I am from Texas though and perhaps I might have dated a cowboy or two back in the day.

 

Haha - Me, too, Clash! He rode broncs and bulls. But I did get to ride in the Grand Entry. No events, though.

 

So funny our County rodeo started this weekend. It was just the livestock show and judging along with the cookoff and other crafting contests. Our farm sponsored a high school kid so we had an entry in the Steer division. He took a first place ribbon so the kid did a good job raising him. This week will be the rodeo events in the evening not sure how many if any I will go to. I like the calf roping and barrel racing events best, the bronc and bull riding makes me really nervous. I don't want to see anyone get hurt and that happens a lot more often than you think it does at these little rodeos.

 

INCREDIBLE DAY - PART 1

Dear Diary!!

Oh you will not believe it! What can I say?!!
Today changed my life - an incredible day!!
It's all because of David - he was such a hero!
Saved my whole life...other guys now seem zero!

You should have seen him, Diary Dear!!
He rode a white horse with not a trace of fear
Right into a Stampede coming straight for me!!
He rode bent over, held his arm out to see!
And just like in a movie swept me up in his arm
Then found me a horse, made sure of no harm.

Back we rode into the herd and circled them round
Herded them all together back to safe ground!
Everyone cheered him, and me not the least
To have seen this all happen, how he'd tamed the wild beast!!

My heart seemed to have a mind of its own
As it flipped and it flopped and felt it had grown
Into something or someone I'd never known!
David is my hero - I'll never forget
This day that he saved me...and didn't get me all WET!!!


INCREDIBLE DAY - PART 2

Dear Diary - There is so much more
Of this magical day - I can hardly keep score!

On the way to the Show we had a breakdown.
David knew of my plan, and he had such a frown.
Then along came Brad who smiled....was that glee
In his eyes? But in David's - he only saw me.

So he said to Brad, "Take her, she must get to the Show!"
I saw what that cost him, he seemed so full of sorrow
That I kissed his cheek softly and said, "See you soon!"
Hoped he'd make it - for my ride was at noon!

Time to ride! What a brute was that ol' Mustang -
I had my hands full! But I couldn't see David!! Then BANG!!
We were off! Yep - I said OFF!! Right into the dirt!!
Landed right on my....dignity!! Couldn't find my lost quirt!

Well, that was too much! Couldn't let that ride stand!!
The crowd was behind me! And they gave me a hand
When the Judges said yes! But where was David? My focus was lost
As I mounted again! I wasn't ready! Oh No - this would cost!

Then out of the stands a familiar voice said "Go T-Rex, Go!"
The world got alright!! My focus came back!! On with the Show!
This beast was mine! - As I settled to Ride, it all came together,
And I rode and I rode, and felt light as a feather!!

I rode as in a dream and lost track of time
Till this Pony gave up; he knew he was mine!
The crowd went wild, but I barely heeded.
All I wanted was David! It was him that I needed!

Well, Dear Diary, I've told you the rest,
But what's to come now, it's really the BEST!!
