So speaking of music... who here plays an instrument, or writes music? If so... what instrument (or instruments if you play multiple) do you play... and or what type of music do you (if you are a composer) like to create. Also... what type of music in general do you enjoy playing? What music do you find hard? What comes easier for you?

I don't play anything (my daughter tells people all I play is the radio and that's on the wrong channel).
However I especially like the violin (Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor is one of my favorite) and fiddle, Bagpipes, steel drums (Caribbean Reggie), mandolin, and dulcimer. ANY instrument that is well played is a joy.

Aye I am right with ye pal... I too play the radio... and youtube, and spotify... ;), so totally can relate... and nice selection of songs you got there. I shall have to check them out sometime, and totally dig the bagpipes (always wanted to learn how to play those) but dang they are expensive. :( Oh well... a dream for another time lol. But cool all in all you got some great stuff :D

Here's an example of my statement "ANY instrument that is well played ..."
We can't post URLs and such here, but if you look up on YouTube 'William Tell Overture on Harmonica' there is a great musician playing one of the simplest instruments around. (He's a guest on the Bill Gaither show in case it helps find it on YouTube).

So I got this concert coming up here pretty soon (yes I do play in a band) and... one of the major pieces of music we will be playing is all by none other than Sousa, just curious who here also enjoys Sousa music? *raises hand* Because I am totally one of those people ;)

I watched some footage of Sutton Foster last night in one of my youtube rabbit hole adventures and now I've got the song "Anything Goes" stuck in my head. Can't get it out...I like Cole Potter and all but really this needs to stop. It's just on endless replay in there. Guess I shouldn't have watched that clip so many times but the tap dancing was so amazing.

I played the piano when I was younger. Gave it up when I went away to college. And now, it's been 30+ years since I played and I think I forgot how. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate music, though.

My father-in-law (FIL) sings in two barbershop quartets and a chorus. I keep bugging my DH to join the chorus and start singing with his dad. He won't have any of it. He can carry a tune when he wants to, and his dad has a wonderful voice - mostly sings tenor. They do a lot of 'old-timey' songs, but sometimes those songs are just what a person needs to hear. One of the quartets he's in just added 'Cool Water' to their repertoire. I just love that one.

I enjoy Sousa. Wasn't much of a fan during boot camp while we marched, and marched, and marched, and ..... to all our favorite Sousa tunes. It is difficult today - Many years later - not to still need to walk in cadence. Perhaps in a few years a walker instead of a cane will make that easier.

Thanks Jio - lots of people feel very patriotic just hearing Sousa! Hope you and your group the best!

Thanks @BeeDance , I hope so too... and yes Sousa is very patriotic indeed, I think my favorite of them all is the Thunderer, and then maybe Washington Post, oh and there is... well nvm, I like them ALL. hehe

Wow @sewinglady, that's so neat about having played the piano even if it was quite a long time ago, and pretty neat about your father-in-law being in a barbershop quartet, one of the trumpet players in our band also is a barbershop quartet singer so that's all pretty neat...

@Clashstrummer, huh interesting, I think I will have to look into that... thanks for sharing. :D

First of all music is my life and i cant do anything without it. So what I might find amazing some one else might find boring or nauseating. That is totally cool8) and fine:) it's why there are so many different genres of music. Just want to make sure no one is offended by what is after all only one persons opinion.

    I love 80s and 90s music especially....
    1. Wind of change by Scorpions
    2. You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi
    3. (Everything I Do) I Do It For You by Bryan Adams
    4. I Want To Break Free by Queen
    5. November rain by Guns N' Roses
    6. Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
I hate Blues songs because they always make me fell sad.

Yes i have to admit i too love Disney Songs, some of my favorites are:

    1. The Little Mermaid - Kiss the girl
    2. Jungle Book - Bear Necessities
    3. Frozen - Let It Go (i dont know why Frozen is so underrated)
    4. Mulan - Honor To Us All
    5. Hercules - I Wont Say Im In Love
    6. The Great Mouse Detective - Big Ben Chase Scene
    7. Lion King - Be Prepared
    8. Lion King II - Love Will Find A Way
    9. Monsters Inc - The Scare Floor
    10. Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Crystal Chamber (i dont know why Atlantis: The Lost Empire is so underrated).

No one should be offended by what you love...if I can groove to disco, you can rock out to 80's rock. In fact, I'll admit to once having some Guns N' Roses in my collection. Don't exactly know what happened to it. Must have got lost in the move.

As for blues...I think it has what I would call "sub-genres" - jump blues being my favorite (think Brian Setzer post The Stray Cats). I also am fond of a compilation CD that I have called "Road Trip Blues". It is perfect for just that - road trips! Not too fast, not too slow...just good rockin' blues. I never knew anything about the blues until as a teenager watching Saturday Night Live, I saw John Belushi and the Killer Bees. That's what started me liking the blues. Seriously.

Sewinglady that's the best reason ever! Loved Belushi. The Blues Brothers started me on the road to blues music, literally my first exposure to all the great blues musicians that had cameos in that movie.

Well, my husband was guitar player in a band... he quit a few years ago. He has a nice collection of guitars and one piano. I just added a nai to our instruments collections. I like to play at guitar and nai but just play. I'm not good. I go more with singing.
I like all gender of music. Important is that has to be good quality, no copy or inspired songs (that songs when I'm listening and thing at other song). No stupid lyrics.

Me too. Only awful songs pass. I have to admit last year's song was bad and we qualified, this year with a powerful song and we didint pass SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!!!.I m from Malta and the thing is that we can never win the Eurovision because they vote for neighbors and we dont have neighbors Eurovision suck after this year i m not going to see it anymore and Malta should not participate in it anymore. Officially the most underrated song this year. Malta sent a masterpiece this year and deserved a place in the grand final. In Vienna her voice was incredible (i am in Vienna and cant come back until tomorrow but i still will go to the arena to watch how will win but this is the last time i will watch Eurovision!!!!! thats for sure!!!!! .

    lol Sweden won the Eurovision.

it was coped from Dvid Guetta -lovers on the sun.
sweden's song: Måns Zelmerlöw - Heroes - Sweden

This is nai. One of Romanian traditional instruments. The design can vary a lot, the number of tubes, the length and thickness. Usually Romanian nai is tuned in G and C.
