It's Little Lotte (my little premmies) Birthday today. Okay, only 4 weeks but never thought she'd make it... But she has AND going from strength to strength... She celebrated with a huge pile of willow browse... which she shared with Hector and their mothers...

:( Misha is a girl :( Reindeer both male and female reindeer have antlers- (only deer species that do) and Misha is feminine... please!!!
Even Little Lotte will have her first growth of antlers in the next couple of week..
PS look at her picture and you can already see the hair starting to part/change:)

My little guy is such a poser - only this evening there were so many pictures to choose between BUT this is a caught in the action shot, won....
His antler stumps are like children teething... Itchy, uncomfortable and he can't decide whether to rub head with back leg or chew hoof... Way to confusing for a little guy! :)

A little worried about his mummy, she has lost so much weight in the last couple of weeks.. She has had 3 different wormer's in 6 weeks. Will do another fecal worm count on her later this week. If that is negative will have to take bloods for copper level (but did those 8 weeks ago)... I know she is producing loads of milk - a little too much as little "Hungry Hector" is only feeding fron 2 1/4 and letting the remaining 2 get engrossed and painful... :( Stressy time here!

Have you considered a White Blood cell count? Hope she didn't retain any placenta. Keeping fingers crossed and well wishes that you figure it out soon and that it is easily taken care of. :)

Temperature fine so no infections... Hence looking at other factor :)

Vet thinks she is just a "milky cow" giving everything to her calf and losing weight off her back but he's running some tests just in case.. but not an infection as everything is normal apart from weight loss.

Daisy, I have planted willow and birch (fenced off) and within the willow plantation I am growing nutritious weeds for them to hand harvest - they don't actually break down fences - just use as ladders to get to browse... but a rutting bull will break fences but not to feed (rutting bulls just don't eat... but are scary), just to fight or to get to females.. :) The tamer they are the most dangerous to their owners... :( No longer scared of us so will challenge as they would another reindeer getting close to their girls... Their hormones are beyond for 6 weeks - think a teenager on drugs, beer and sleeves rolled up and times by 1000... after it's cuddles time.. :(

There is a wonderful (Closed reindeer site) only open to reindeer owners, worldwide. We share the good and not so, to learn from each other as there is so little info, even on the WWB... but the good is so evident :) Not sure how to explain... but something changes once they realise that we protect them from so much when they know the wolverines (most awful predators) and wolves are no longer a problem.. they change from being wary and become playful.. "pains in the neck" They completely loose their worries and become happy and playful... they are very intelligent animals
Just posting a silly of Hector today not the best angle to see his little antler buds, but they are growing... if someone will post then I can show his antler growth too

Rubs his little head on my hand, as I think they are itchy... Can't see them from all angles but can feel them when he rubs his little head on my hand.... and he is soo proud!
