    Growing crops: various plot sizes

    Ready, set, grow!
The sun is shining and the birds are chirping - there's never been a better time than now to till your fields.
Your field is divided into a grid. On this grid, you can farm your land, plant trees or raise animals
Acres are free; put as many of them on your field as you can.

Click on the acre symbol in the left navigation bar to move a small, medium or large-sized plot of land onto the field.
Drag 'n drop these acres around your field to move them.
Once you drag these acres onto your field, you'll see a grid appear to help you place them properly.

    plot1.png
The small acre has 1 square (yield = 2 plants)

    plot2.png
the medium-sized acre has 2 squares (yield = 3 plants)

    plot3.png
the large-sized acre has 4 squares. (yield = 5 plants)

    plot4.gif
Once you have selected an acre, you can also choose to place several acres of the same size on your land.

To leave the 'field placement mode' simply re-click on the 'acre icon' on the left,
or deactivate the mode by clicking this icon at the top of your farm:

You can also delete your acres by using the Multi-Tool tab.
    See {FAQ} Deleting items

The Harvester Helpers : Builder function also optimizes acre placement and speeds up deletion.

    Growing crops: planting seeds

Planting crops is really quite simple
just click on your acre and pick an item from the pop-up menu.
You can then plant the same type of seed on several acres.

    1.gif

    New items will be activated as you progress through new levels;
meaning the higher your level, the better your selection.

Once sown, you can see the remaining time of growth, by clicking on the acre and checking the information bubble:

Use the contextual menus to add water/manure/super-grow and/or Suzy's fertilizer.

To sow other types of seeds, either re-click on the acre-icon
or deactivate the seed you are sowing, by clicking this icon at the top of your farm:

    3.jpg

There is also a Quick-Seed icon in the left-navigation-bar which is a direct link to the seed chart where you can make your choice of seeds to sow:

    4.jpg

If you see a "0" in the plant menu, it means you're out of seeds.
Take a trip to the Shopping Center and buy new seeds from the seed shop.
You can use the "Shopping Tab" on the left to go straight to the Seed-shop:

At the top-left corner of your seed chart, there's also a short-cut link to the seed-shop:

From level 3+ you can also compare seed prices in the Farmer's Market,
where you can sort the offers by 'amount' (if you only want 1 or 2 seeds),
or by 'price per unit' (if you want the cheapest deal).
However, you need to be very quick when buying seeds in the market as the best offers vanish within seconds.

The Harvester Helpers : Seeder function also optimizes sowing seeds, and other useful functions concerning plants.

    Growing crops: Shortening growing time

Planting seeds into your rich soil isn't the be-all and end-all of your farming.
There's plenty more work involved! You can also water and fertilize your crops.
Watering your crops helps to promote the growth of your plants.
If you click on your cultivated fields, a contextual menu will appear.

    7.gif

    water.png
    Water
will reduce the remaining growing time by -20%

    manure.png
Manure will reduce the remaining growing time by -5%

    sg.png
Super-Grow will reduce the remaining growing time by -50%

    suzy.png
The 4th option is Suzy's Super-Grow, it does not shorten the overall growing time, but gives +3 crops and extra EP/TEP per harvest.

The Harvester Helpers : Seeder function also helps adding water, manure, super-grow and Suzy's fertilizer to all your growing acres with just one click (as long as you have enough resources!).

    Growing crops: Harvesting crops

While growing each plant will undergo around four visual 'changes'.
When your crops are ripe for harvesting, you'll see 'visually' that their growth is complete. This is the exciting part!
There is, however, no icon to show full maturity.

When you click on a fully grown crop,
you'll see the Barn icon in the contextual menus.
Click on this icon to send your crops to your Barn inventory,
    as shown below

    harvest.png

What can you do with your crop harvest?

    • Use your harvested goods to plant new crops.
    • Fill customer orders in your Farmhouse and deliver your crops to them.
    • Turn your harvest into animal feed in the mill.
    • Sell your crops in the City at the Farmers' Market.
    • Use them in your Greenhouse to research for plant bonuses.
    • Use them in Artisan's Village.

The Harvester Helpers : Harvest function also optimizes harvesting of all elements that are ready to be harvested.

    Growing crops: Swift Meadows
    (Comfort Fields)

When you get to level 60+ you'll be able to place some swift meadows (comfort fields).
These meadows leave you a bit more freedom, as weeds only appear after 48 hours.

They are located in the acre tab too:

    Growing crops: Categories

Farmerama plants are placed into certain categories.

At the beginning of the game, it doesn't matter much which category, for example: carrots or wheat are in.

But as soon as you get introduced to Artisan Products, maybe because you received some, or bought some (and from level 40+ you'll be able to start making your own), it will be useful to know which plants fit into which category.

    The different categories are:
    Grains
    Vegetables
    Flowers
    Other

You can see which plants fit into which category in the Crop Category FAQ.
