I posted in another forum category that I appreciated purplebeet's post because he/she brought a smile to my face ~ something much needed after going to the veterinarian the other day.

Since he/she asked for an update, it's this:

Casanova {our cat}has a kidney disease so now we have to give him pills 2x daily, subcutaneous fluid drip injections every 2nd or 3rd day & he must now be on a special diet.

While my husband & I are concerned about the cost of course, our main focus is on how long our four footed family member will be with us. He could live another year or 10 *BUT* if he doesn't start eating more ...well....

I'm sorry for your poor kitty. Hope he does well on the diet and new regime.

I know I would do just about anything to keep my baby alive and healthy. He has a severe flea allergy that requires quite a bit of work. Not only the high end vet only flea medication but I also have to vacuum the house and his tree and bed daily. He is strictly indoor but in the climate I live in fleas are plentiful and you can bring them into the house on your shoes or clothes. I used to live in New England when I got him and never had any issue with fleas. The first year I moved back to Texas he lost all his fur, got these sort of wet sticky patches everywhere and scratched himself bloody. Took a bit for me to get it under control after the vet diagnosed him and now I am hyper vigilante about it. It does keep the house super clean though.

Thoughts and best wishes to all who face fur baby challenges. We have them too. We had to say goodbye to our sweet cat this past summer that we had for 14 years and our dogs are both getting older with some health issues that come with age. We worry over them as if they were children, and they most definitely are an important part of the family.

Clash- we have a similar flea allergy with our dog. It is a nightmare to keep up with. Unfortunately, she is so sensitive that even just one bite can escalate quickly. Poor girl.

SW= I hope your cat adjusts well with the changes.

Thank you for that update, Cactus, I'm sorry to hear of your challenges though. I'm a foster mom to six pitt/boxer rescues, that I'm blessed to say, other than a lonely heart-they have come to me healthy. I have 3 mix babies that are the OG of the household, and with age come some mishaps, but so far all is very well. My heart gets a bit heavy though thinking of what you are experiencing...it helps to share with those who care to listen, and it seems you have that here. If it lifts your heart , know that we will say a prayer for your baby Casanova each morning we have prayer for our rescue babies. (and please feel free to inbox anytime!) blessings miss purplebeet;)

swCactus and everyone its so sad to here of these stories of our 4 legged members of our families who rely on us for their well being.

If you all dont mind can I add our story about our huge and cuddly and sometimes stupid Bassett Hound with his sad eyes that hides his naughtyness.

We had a neighbour about 6 years ago who tried to poison him he kept putting chemicals under the fence for him to drink and was throwing stuff over the fence behind the garage which we couldnt see at first that he would eat. We couldnt prove anything but these events coinciding with our dog starting having epiletic seizures, which on the first occasion was frightening as he was all rigid by the time we got him to the vets he was out of seizure and vet couldnt diagnose. This was Sunday evening and the vet stopped his evening to see him. This went on for 6 months till finally he was in a 2 hour seizure which gave us time to get him to the vets. Now he is on 2 tablets a day which controls his seizures but he still has them but only about 2 or 3 a year

Oh Phoenixboy I feel for you. There are some truly sick people in this world and it sounds as if you're neighbor was one of them.

That is the kind of people, your ugly neighbors, pheonixboy, that pushed us into fostering, bringing them home to find 4-ever homes, in place of whatever social media we could use. Your neighbors are very very fortunate not to be mine. I'm a bit of an extremist when it comes to the aid of the voiceless, and have had to ask for forgiveness many a night. -sorry, getting off track- but know you are in our thoughts too-and thank you Cactus for opening this thread for folks to share:)

could any who posts please mention your pets name also? its nice to connect with!

Thanks to everyone who has posted here ~ it's a reminder to me that although I may sometimes feel as if i'm alone with my fears, I'm not.

phoenixboy.... I'm sorry to hear about your Bassett Hound. LoL, as you were describing his ability to hide his naughtiness behind soulful eyes, I was grinning from ear to ear. As to your neighbors {& I certainly hope they are EX neighbors}, I'm going to need a "Jesus time out" to ask for His forgiveness as to what i'd like to do to them.

Clash ~ thanks for sharing your cat's name & photo .... is he as dignified as he looks?

Huge "thumbs up" to you, purplebeet, for taking in rescues as family members.

@phoenixboy, that is NOT a human being that is just a waste of skin! I am so sorry to hear about
your Bassett Hound, poor baby, just doing what dogs do! I hope all goes well for him and you!
Clash, I am so happy to see you back and your beautiful Sebastian on your avatar!:inlove:
I, because of my life style, have had all cats, and all were rescues that just stole my heart and took over my life, and I would not have it any other way! I do love dogs but they just did not fit into my working and so on, but they do have a special place in my heart!:inlove:
And for everyone else who has posted here about their fur babies I pray they will all be happy and well, as they all deserve nothing but love and happiness, as that is what they give us so freely in return!:inlove:

Very sorry about the difficulties some of you have faced with your fur babies. I lost a beloved dog several years ago to suspected poison from a neighbor. My dog never left our yard; the person just didn't like dogs. If the person actually was responsible, they had to look at my family every day for years afterward - knowing we suspected poison.
Love the story of your rescues purplebeet!:)

Thanks guys, hopefully will sort a picture of him but hes toooooo big to fit in a picture haha.

Be nice to see if others join in with their stories, albeit sad and some funny ones, like we have with BoHoKaren and her delightfully and also very sad stories of her Reindeers.

swCactus, they are now thankfully ex neighbours. I know we should show compassion but im sorry people like that dont deserve the time of Jesus they are just total scum

I thought it best to keep most of what I thought about your neighbors, phoenixboy, to myself as I didn't want to get in trouble with the mods.

Purplebeet I applaud you for your rescues. I used to do some volunteer work at a shelter but I now am a primary care-giver for my elderly Mom and don't have time. I could never foster though as I get far too attached and would end up wanting to keep all of them.

Sebastian is indeed very dignified and meticulous in his grooming. He is also very cuddly, loving and playful and I adore him even when he's naughty. ;)

Sanddollar I'm like you in that I also love dogs I just don't have the time or space to give them what they need so I've always had cats.

I had a vey sad experience 2 weeks ago when I had to say "goodbye" to one of my beloved Scotties. She would have been 11 years old next week and meant so much to me, but she had a mouth tumour and I knew that her time had come. I still have my little boy Scottie who will be 10 next week and he misses her a lot. They were born on the same day a year apart but came from different kennels. I also have 2 Bengal cats and one that is a cross between a Maine Coon and Bengal. He is black and I call him my "mini panther", he is my avatar! He is the only cat who seems to miss my dog, the other 2 couldn't care less!

Lilaclady, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Just to lighten the mood I will tell you what I think is a very sweet story. My Mom is 84 and after a series of major health issues is now mostly in a wheelchair and fairly frail. When I moved back and into her house in order to take care of her I of course brought Sebastian along with me. In order for her to make friends with him she took to giving him treats. He is much too large for her to pick up or even hold on her lap so she got him to get up on a chair in the kitchen and she rolls over and puts the treats in her lap and he eats them sitting on the chair. This way she can stroke his head a bit while he eats.

After a few years it has progressed to Sebastian jumping into this chair every time he wants treats and "calling" her until she comes to the kitchen from wherever she is in the house and gives him some. She was telling this to one of my brothers on the phone as to how well she had trained my cat. All I could think of was just exactly who trained who in this scenario? After all he is getting just exactly what he wants when he wants it. xD:inlove:

first of all id like to say I will be praying for all sick and/or injured /sick furbabies and I'm really sorry to hear of anyone losing a furbaby :( I know how hard it can be :(. I used to have a page in gabfest where we could share pictures of all our fur babies but hardly anyone used it so its now in archives somewhere :(. Then id like to tell you about our girl Maya she is Lab/Shep mix well in the middle/end of Jan she was limping we just thought it was from lyme disease she was diagnosed a few years ago but that's not what it was from. It was actually a split toenail I noticed it when I was looking her over it was split clear through and from front all the way back to the skin :(. Got her to the vet they cut the nail off up to the skin but its still not healed poor baby :( they did put her on Antibiotics and pain meds. I have to keep wearing socks on her so she wont lick it, plus we had her spayed like a yr ago she is 10 now but ever since we had her spayed we have to have her wear an Ecollar when we go to the store or anything cause after we brought her home from being spayed she had started chewing on herself, we came home one day to find her tail all bloody from her chewing she had NEVER done this prior to being spayed :( we are doing everything we can to get everything cleared up and all healed, we have been giving her salmon oil, and salmon in a can it seems to be helping, ooooh and we have to keep her on urinary tract med to keep her from getting UTIs. This poor baby has been through a lot in her life as a puppy she and her little brother got parvo, her little brother died from it and she pulled through I'm so happy she did she is a wonderful, beautiful girl and her and my Marly are like sisters now. They love each other and would be lost without each other :) Marly is in my Avatar :) thank goodness she is doing good, :) she weighs 72 pounds I call her my little sausage lol at least she is healthy :) she is 8 she is a Dalmador :) Maya weighs 112 pounds :)
