Marly, you and your girls will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers. :inlove: I'm sure Maya and Marly will be up and at 'em in no time, back to being their adorable selves. Make sure to keep their water bowl full of cool, clean water; whenever one of my boys came out of anesthesia, they were always thirsty. And don't be alarmed if they take a while to really get back to normal. When Moose got a tooth removed last year, he was stoned for the rest of the day and all night, lol. We had to get Cam's dew claw removed on one foot a few years back (they'd been removed by the breeder when he was a baby, but one grew back, and it was crooked and caught on things so we got it taken off to keep it from tearing off), and when he woke up he was totally weirded out, so it's good to make sure you're where they can see you and spend time with them until the fuzz wears off a bit and they're not so disoriented. And they'll sleep a bunch until it completely wears off. Oh, and they'll probably need to go to the bathroom a bit more too, may even have accidents, they can't help it, so might be good to make them a comfortable recovery place with throw rugs on linoleum floor, or somewhere/something easily cleaned.

Seems to be the season for injured pets. Cam thinks he's Snoopy, and jumps up on his dog house all the time (yes, it's even a pointed roof like Snoopy's xD ). Problem is, he doesn't realize he's getting older, so he keeps spraining his foot when he jumps down. :p Yesterday we were mowing the lawn and Cam was in his pen, and when I brought him in he was limping worse than I've ever seen him limp before, evidently did a flying leap again and landed poorly. Thankfully I have some doggy Advil (it's an anti-inflammatory med specifically for canines, since it's bad to give them actual Advil) I got from the vet the last time he hurt his foot, so I gave him a dose last night and another today, and he's almost back to normal. Normal being a relative term, of course.

Thoughts and best wishes are with you and your girls. I know it is a worrisome time. That's great news that your family is able to help so she can get medical attention sooner. Thanks for the update. Hugs to you all.

I am sorry that so many furbabies are having difficulties, but I so glad they all have such wonderful humans like you to take care of them. :inlove:

I need some "Fur" advice. None of my RL friends know anything about cat's with a hairball issue. I went to the Vet & $53 dollars to be told to get a different feeding bowl with ridges to compartmentalize the food to slow down her eating. I spent $20 on it.

I'm not complaining about the money. It's just that all it did is reduce the hairballs (significantly), but not stop them completely. The other big difference with the new bowl is that when she discharges a hairball. It is all hairball instead of a ton of food with it.

The Vet told me that the next option would to give her medicine. I'm hesitant. I'm personally not big on medicine. I use medicine when it is necessary, but try to avoid needing it. Plus, she is cantankerous when is comes to me trying to do anything.

I tried putting a leash on her when she was a Kitten. She just laid there looking like she was dead. She chew off her collar. She won't let me clip her toenails even though they get caught on everything. She shook the ear mite medicine all over the bathroom & me. ...so, I am hesitant to try giving her medicine.

I was wondering, if any of you have had cats with hairball issues and what you did to improve them.

I feel so sorry for her everytime she trows them up.

Is she an indoor cat? I have an indoor cat with long hair and she doesn't have too many. I feed her indoor purina cat food (dry) It says it helps with hair balls and I think it does. You can get this grass to grow indoors and that helps also. I too don't want to give meds if can help it. That's why they eat grass out doors. Don't worry about them especially since her food isn't coming up. Its just nature.

Yes, she is an indoor cat. She is a short hair brown Tabby. I feed her Hairball formula Science diet. The 2 times that I have tried a different kind of cat food her Anual sack gets cloged and I had to take her to the vet. The vet always reassures me that this is the best brand for her hairball issues, because of the high protein and fiber content. The vet did say that if the medicine did not work I could try an even more expensive "prescription" brand that I could buy from them. I agree that it is a natural process.

    EDIT:

This is TygerLilly after I came home from a trip. She wanted to make sure I would take her with me the next time.

sglick - I remember that adorable pic of TygerLilly...too funny and too cute!;) That is definitely a cat hug!!! I've been thinking of your hairball dilemma. You know I'm a "weird cat lady"...LOL.:pxD My Vet, whom I adore, told me to put a little margarine on my finger and let my cat lick it off(daily)....this helps quite a bit.

I just read your reply. I love her picture and my cat does the same thing as soon as I get my suitcase out. She sleeps on it till I leave. I'm sorry about your hairball issue. It's very unusual with such short hair. You can't tell from my cats picture but my cat has long hair.
I just want to tell my neighbors that I will have limited access to the game for the next two weeks . If I am able to get on my Ipad it doesn't allow me to type anything. I don't know why. Probably not able to gift either.

Remember not to feed Marly tonight, the anesthesia can make them nauseous and vomit. I'm guessing your vet told you how long before surgery she couldn't be fed, if not I'd give it 12 hours. I can't remember how long it was for my dogs, I just know they were supposed to be fed early enough that it had time to fully digest before surgery. She may get sick anyway, some dogs are very sensitive to the drug. The first time my dog Moon went under (my 115 lb. baby, lol), the vet had me keep him outside until he was about out in case he was sick. He sat there until he started swooning, and since I didn't want to try to carry the big dork in even with my husband's help, I took him in before he passed out completely (the vet worked out of his home). We literally made it about a foot inside the door when Moon heaved all over the floor. :p Moon was 10 and had a potentially deadly tumor on his bottom, and he came thru like a champ, so I will continue to have faith your Marly will do so as well. Prayers for you and her tonight, for peace and rest. Know your farm family is with you in thought, so many of us have been where you are. Be well. :inlove:

p.s. - in the event your girl needs one of those head cones to keep her from licking/chewing at her stitches, I took a quick peek on Google, and there are many DIY homemade versions that you can make yourself without having to pay the horrendous price from the vet's office or pet store. Every bit of savings helps, I know.
