Except moonlight playfields?

Does this mean that the items from the new MM event cannot be placed in the haunted manor?

Yes, they can be placed on Haunted Manor. It is open all the time and not restricted to only during Moonlight Mania. The Moonlight playfields include the Full Moon field (cemetery) and Mushroom Forest.

Sorry to insist, but are you positive that moonlight playfields does not include the haunted manor? The phrase "except Moonlight playfields" have been used in several FAQs were the items could not be placed in the haunted manor.

Examples:
Cirque du FARMERAMA - items can not be placed in the haunted manor.
The Big Swirl V2 - Only "Beast of the deep" can be placed in the haunted manor.
Hooked on Fishing 2018 - items can not be placed in the haunted manor.
The Berry Effect - items can not be placed in the haunted manor.
... and several more.

The items from the farmcup can however be placed in the haunted manor despite the exclusion of moonlight playfields according to the FAQ.

There seems to be some confusion about the term

Usually when stating Moonlight playfields, I refer to all 3 fields. For the Eerie Step in Time event, I have updated the FAQ to reflect they can also be placed on the Haunted Manor. I have no idea why certain items are placeable on the Haunted Manor when they are not Moonlight related
