    I can't plant the feather fern in the field at the event area.

    The Feathered Fern can only be planted on two specific areas (upper right corner & lower left corner) of the event field, the other two areas are for the Pink Magnolia (upper left corner & lower right corner).

    You first have to unlock the two other fields with busy bees. Then you can use them.
