Game ends with time still on clock

I have played the in event mini game 6-8 times. On multiple occasions, perhaps all occasions, as I didn't pay attention initially, the curtains close and there are 38 - 48 seconds left.

In addition, the game says your have earned x # of coins, but a different amount is logged.

Hello sadiesmom1,

The clock shows how long the Game lasts for (60 seconds). The curtains will close as soon as all 10 Softballs have been used or you run out of time.
The difference you are seeing is, the points you acquired through the mini-game are less than the actual Star coins rewarded. Example: Your last attempt only awarded 15 star coins, but as the minimum you win is 18, therefore more coins than points were shown.
To increase your points/stars, you need to hit the 2 cats with golden hearts, characters with silver hearts and the Bonus character which speeds up the pop up rate.
