    I wish everyone Happy Pongal & Tami New Year !
    May love, happiness, peace & prosperity overflow in your life and in your family like the overflowing Pongal Pot !
    On this great day I thank the Farmers, Sun & Nature, Cows, bulls & cattles for making us live and bringing us prosperity.

    I will be leaving to my native village tomorrow morning to celebrate Pongal with my relatives. Will be back on Friday, late night. Tomorrow is Boghi Pongal, last day of Tamil month Margali and on that day we prepare ourselves to welcome Pongal. We clean, white wash(if possible- in interior villages this is still followed) and discard or burn the waste. Pongal is offered to our ancestors in our fields. All the families our clan come to a particular spot in the field and cook pongal together. The next day, Jan 15, 16 & 17 are Pongal. 15th is Perum Pongal, meaning the main pongal where farmers & sun are thanked. 16th is Maatu Pongal - On that day we thank the cows, bulls & cattles without which farming cannot be carried out & who are always a part of a farmer's family and bring them weath. 17th is Kaanum Pongal and we celebrate it with our family & relatives by visiting places or organising folk songs, traditional games, dances & songs and also other games.

    And on Jan 15th Tamil New Year (Tiruvalluvar Year 2050) starts. Many people celebrate Hindu New Year as Tamil New Year. But the real Tamil New Year is Pongal & that was long made forgotten.
