    Hello everyone!

I'm a Newbie to the farm. I'm also a level 5. I read the chicken FAQ and searched the forum but it's still not clear to me how I can breed my chickens (and rabbits etc.) to make eggs and little baby chicks. I bought 2 chicken coops and upgraded one of them to the first level color. I watered the chickens and I even bought the power feed that says in the description it is needed to make animals grow faster and for breeding. I gave the chickens (and the rabbits) the power feed too and nothing happened. Do I need a rooster or the pheromones I saw for sale to make them lay eggs and have chicks?

    Thanks
    GL

You need to be level 24 i think it is from memory to be able to breed ..... the power feed will speed up the time between harvest .... also once you get to the level to gain a breeding pen power feed is needed then

    Hi igotfrogs :)
Okay. Thank you very much. I will save the power feed then and look to upgrade to breeding on Level 24.

Save some animals as well...... don't sell them all as each breeding costs you 4 animals

You need to be at least level 21 to breed animals. When you're ready to breed, you put 4 animals of the same kind in a breeding pasture and give them 2 power feed to get it started. You can then use up to 4 pheromones per breeding pasture to speed up the breeding process.

The breeding FAQ can be found here.

Breeding gives you coloured animals, not little baby animals BTW. Also, a rooster is a completely different type of animal and has nothing to do with chickens in this game.

You cannot breed animals in regular animal pens (e.g., chicken coop). If you give these regular animal pens power feed, it just shortens the time it takes for it to produce 1 normal animal. However, no sane farmer would actually use power feed to make their animals grow faster, as power feed is a precious commodity in this game. Use it for breeding purposes only!

Upgrading a regular animal pen will only speed up how long it takes to produce a normal animal, give you more experience points when you go to harvest that animal, and/or give you more of the same animal. It will not give you baby animals (which do not exist in this game) or products such as eggs.

If you go through the Game FAQs section of the forum, you will find a thread for each type of animal explaining all the different pen upgrades, their respective production pen + upgrades, and the different coloured animals you can get when you breed them.

You need to be at least level 8 to produce eggs, which are a type of product and have nothing to do with breeding. Once you reach level 8, you can access the workshop in the city to build production pens for your animals. But you will need to gather some tools first!

You can find step-by-step instructions on how to acquire tools and build production pens in the workshop FAQ.

To produce eggs, what you want is an egg farm (name of production pen for chickens). After you build an egg farm at the workshop, you need to place it on your farm and give it 1 chicken feed and 3 chickens, which will give you 1 egg. You will not get those 3 chickens back, however, so be warned!

If you have a mentor, you can also ask him/her to send you egg farms and shearing sheds (production pens for rabbits which produce angora wool) as a gift.

Thank you very much zerodegrees. :) And thank you for clearing up some misconceptions too. I think I thought there were actual baby chicks because the descriptions of the colored coops in the store say that they will produce lots of chicks and tender meat. So just to clarify -- the game allows players to breed different colored chickens per the FAQ and then also (separately) using an egg coop the players can produce eggs to sell. Okay. Got it. Thanks, again! -- gL

Thanks Intrepideur! I will check out the link to the Barter event. I noticed I won/was gifted some poofy event seeds and so I need to find out how to use them anyway. Thanks for the link.

Ummm...what's an OP? Is that me?
