Didn't want to hijack davidb1yth007's thread, but I am experiencing a similar issue which I feel may be what they were talking about.

In my market, the cheapest price for manure is 1269.55 CCs (at the time of writing this). Yet when I attempt to sell manure, the most I can offer it for is 445.36 CCs. Even if the other sellers have the ability to offer for 75% higher through the tree rune, I also have that rune unlocked so it should not make a difference. Even if it did, they are selling for well more than 75% higher than I am able to. I should be able to offer the manure for a price at least somewhat close to what they have, yet I am forced to offer mine for more than 800 CCs cheaper than everyone else.

I realise that market prices are dynamic, but this is not the way the market usually works. I cannot see any reason why I should be forced to sell for much cheaper (even at the highest available price).

I suspect this is what davidb1yth007 was referring to.

EDIT: I have just seen another player offer manure for 445.36 CCs, despite the next highest being 1269.55. Clearly this is a widespread issue.

    Hello aquigglegiggle,

As explained with the dynamic market, those listings were probably made when market prices were high and since then, all the cheaper market prices have been bought. If many players are listing manure to sell and there is no demand for buying, the listing price will fall.
I will however pass this onto the Game Team to check that there is no issue.

    Can I assist you further?

    Hi shooger,

Thanks for your help. I only ask because in nearly 9 years of gameplay this has never happened before, so unless they have changed the algorithm for the market, I can't imagine it is meant to work this way. Typically the listing price appears to have been based on the other prices available, which change according to demand, rather than being based on demand itself - that is, the price does not simply drop because of demand when other prices are high, but rather the prices change based on how popular the product is, and listing price is determined around the prices of other offers. I have always been able to list my products for at least the same amount as the lowest listing, if not significantly more. It seems odd that suddenly I am prohibited from selling for as much as everyone else, being denied the 800 extra CCs per unit that everyone else can get.

If we could keep the thread open until you hear from the game team that would be fantastic. Thanks for all your help!

    • Thanks farmer-broke for this explanation.
    • Sorry, squiggle for entering your thread, but mine got closed.
    • I really want to express how the manure market is governed more strenuously than the rest, and this is best indicated by the 100 unit limit which doesn't apply Anywhere else.
    • So I reject the explanation that 'market forces dictate', when, clearly they are not the only influence.

The Market prices vary to demand and supply. This is the same as everything also bought/sold in the Market. The 100 unit limit is more to protect users from purchasing more manure than they can store, as you know that any manure bought over your storage capacity is lost.

    squigglegiggle,
There is no issue with the Market. Prices will rise and fall due to demand.

    Can I assist you further?

This implies that prices rise and fall gradually and in small increments (relative to the overall price). In reality, apparently the algorithm includes a feature whereby the highest one can offer their product for depends on how frequently the product is bought. That is, regardless of how expensive the cheapest offer on the market is, if those items are not selling, new sellers will be forced to sell for much cheaper/prohibited from selling for as much as others. This is far more complex than simply rising and falling with demand. Interestingly, my market has reverted this morning to generously allowing me to sell my items for the same as everyone else. NFQ shooger, thank you for your efforts.

    You are welcome.

This is how all items work that are placed on the Market. I am glad the price has moved and you can now list it at a higher price.
