Has anybody had a chance to evaluate the new "pigs can fly" event for newbies? I have not had the time to check myself (likely won't for a day or two) and have some active chicks I want to advise.

There is no set time. As far as we know, all available mentors are randomly assigned a chick. When there are no more mentors available (we all have been given our allotted number of chicks for the time being), then you have to wait until there is an opening.

It used to be that there were far more mentors than chicks. Now some chicks are having to wait a while. Sorry, I could not be of more help.

In the meantime, feel free to IGM any of the mentors here, virtually all have stated they are happy to help. (if they don't answer, its likely they are on vacation or some such) You can also peruse the strategy threads. Several of them are geared specifically to newer players. We cannot, of course send the mentor gifts, but the truth is if you just do things like put out all your chicken pens (right now the price of manure is sky high due to the event needing crops), filing in with trees in the extra spaces, sell then buy more.. you will very quickly go past level 40 and be able to "give yourself" more than any mentor possibly could.

Hi woody - I have not evaluated plot by plot, field by field to see how far a chickadee can go in the event. However, Magical glade is available at level 14 and the Green Meadow at level 17. One requires quite a bit of stars to open more fields, the other needs neighbors. Baha also requires more stars to open. If a chick already has those open, they will be able to do some of the event. As this event is labeled hard, you will have veteran farmers have a hard time completing it. It is not realistic for a chick or mentor to think a newbie can finish the event. They don't have enough fields, trophies have not had time to be built and no long crop to plant for preparation. For some, the event crop is their longest crop. Even with gifted CAC and their full 20 gifts a day from neighbors and friends, they will struggle.

That being said, does that mean they should not attempt it? What I advised my chickadees is that they could either get their feet wet and get the feel of events and scoop up some prizes because at their level, everything is valuable or they could grow chickens (or rabbits) and sell manure to reinvest in their farms. They could use this time to work on quests to gain more stars or just build inventory as they can level up pretty fast and there is a lot to do to develop a farm. I recommend manure sales to newbies but it is their farm and they get to decide. I thought perhaps that manure would reach levels higher than the previous event (Shipwreck) just because the crop has a longer time to harvest. Last event I saw prices in my market of over 800 CC and thought that it might reach 1000 CC in this one. However, that may prove to be incorrect if a larger number of farmers skip it.

I count my self as a newbie, and agree on the fact you can't manage to do all the races as a fresh framer. However if there are 5-6h of inactivity I would defo recommend they grow the event crop and try to do as much as they can, and when online much, go the poop path or the sunflower path (if possible) and earn CC. The drop is always going to be the bottleneck and limitation, better learn it sooner than later 8) Events are fun! (and very annoying too ;) )

I have registered for becoming a mentor a while ago, but nothing happens.
Haven't got any chick yet. Looks like as if they are not matching chicks to farmers who haven't reached a particular level, or am I wrong?

    Happy Farming everybody

I'm seriously thinking about not contacting my new chicks anymore. I keep getting live ones, and I write a welcome message and encourage them to give the game a fair chance, but it seems like as soon as I send a message, they stop playing:p. I'm beginning to think I have bad breath or something, it's giving me a complex.:wuerg:xD I did have one chick graduate, it was a baby farm for a player already knowledgeable about the game, but I enjoyed having them as a chick even if only for a while.:)

spots - LOL.xDxD...I'm sure you don't have bad breath.
That's exactly what was happening to me a few months ago. So I stopped writing to my chicks right when they arrived. I now give them a few days of me gifting them and waiting to see if they're playing(leveling up) before I write. For some(or many) new players...I think they stop playing b/c they realize for whatever reason this isn't the game for them. Then quit. If you haven't put any big effort into writing them....it hurts less when they quit.
But, if they've leveled up once or twice, they like the game...and are eager for help.

What a kick in the knees.. was a recent chick had achieved level 27...we had been writing back & forth...then she quit...no explanation..just poof..she was gone.:wuerg:
Good luck....any new player should be over the moon to have a mentor like you. ;)

I do a welcome message, helpful ideas as to were to go what to do, send a gift and that's about my routine.
Soon around level 4 the Gage goes red and I hang for another full round of sending gift and message then move on.
I think if one ever does talks to me I will be froze in dumbfound awe.

I had applied to be a mentor from the day it was introduced but I am still waiting. Today because of this thread I checked again and they asked me again to join if I want. So I again clicked Join and now I will have to wait once again...
Maybe this time I have more chances because I am 90 level.

Same thing happened to me, Ariel, I waited for over 2 years, then when everyone started getting accepted a while back I checked and found I needed to reapply. It didn't take very long for me to get accepted and be able to start taking chicks, hopefully won't take long for you either.:) The problem wasn't with your level, it was a problem in the mentoring system, just took them a long time to work it out.;)

Also, just to reiterate -- a lot of chicks won't respond. I have had dozens of chicks and very, very few went beyond level 5 or responded to me in any way. Then... this time I have had 3 active chicks! One took a bit to respond, but has been very active since. I was able to reach level 2 in social points. You never know -- just keep on.

Okay, so I have a question. I'm getting close to level 2 in social EP, and I'm saving all my social points for the moment, as they are slow to come about right now:p. Once I reach level 2, can I still buy items from level 1? For example, if I get to social level 2, can I still buy the stars from level 1, or do I have to get them before I level up? How about the items that are buyable more than once, like the breeding animals, can level 1 be bought after I reach the next level?

Ariel, my meter shows you need 1000 Social EP to reach level 2, social points are different and I don't know how those are configured (haven't read the FAQ).:)

Yes spots, unless it says 1 time only, you should be able to buy level 1 items every time they become available. I'm a level 5 mentor, and I continue to buy the pheromones and EP each week.;)

Thanks Brooke, good to know.:) Hope I don't jinx it, but I've got a live chick who didn't quit as soon as I sent a message.:inlove: They just reached level 10, a first for me (as far as I remember, anyway:p), and I sent them a CAC and an explanation of what it's for. They haven't messaged back, but that's fine with me as long as they keep playing and don't think I'm some weird farm stalker:wuerg:xD.

Unless you can gift those freely from the mentor program, I don't really see the point in gifting those to chicks not responding to igm. There's a big chance they can't speak/read English - and then the gift probably will be lost. While egg farms and stables are much easier to understand the use of - and therefore will be more appreciated.

Just my 2 pennies of thought (or an attempt of thinking...)

Had a really great chick. Say "had" because they disappeared:(Introduced myself.....etc. Chick told me that they didn't ask for a mentor!! Chick also said they were not in a hurry to level up...so I offered to send PF so they could stock it up until level 40 and that wouldn't cause them to level up. Chick was sending Lil Box of Love Points daily. I was truly grateful for that!!! Chick was at around level 21 and POOF they disappeared without an explanation, goodbye or anything. Some people are strange indeed. My player was an adult or at least of legal age...could tell by the way they wrote.

I have gone through too many chicks that play for a few days and then quit.....I have two of them right now that are almost at the red mark.

BP needs to change the way mentors and chickadees are introduced. Language preference should be the deciding factor!! A standard introduction letter should be sent to each chickadee from BP....AND BP should remind the chick that THEY requested a mentor and give them the option of accepting the mentor or not. That way the mentor doesn't confuse the chickadee or come across as a stalker!!

EDIT: BP does the assigning automatically...so I have been informed.
