Merging Markets

    i do not know how the markets are set up in this game, only that there are quite a different number of separate markets. i am in market 33, does that mean that there are 32 markets before me? are markets separated by geographical areas?
    spending quite a bit of time in the market i am starting to notice a few things. most troubling is that around 10pm est market activity drops dramatically. there seem to be very few people buying with only a few people putting up sales. along with huge price swings day to day this leads me to believe that there are not enough people participating in the markets.
    my suggestion is, it might be time to start merging markets. the more people in a market the less volatility in price swings. make sure that players from around the world are in all markets.

    There are at least 36-40 markets. I suspect there is one per server and making one big market is a hardware/software nightmare (if you have been through a G&T you would start to see why). I can tell you by looking at the user names on your market, you will find that they are not segregated by geography. You get assigned to one as you join the game so it is a random thing. Hope this helps you understand better.

    markets are based on which server you are assigned to. It's not technically possible to merge them without having major implications on server loading that would have drastic effects on game speed etc.

    i take it that bp does want a minimum number of players per server. not saying to merge all markets but maybe reduce 40 down to 35 markets. i do not know what happens with inactive accts here on farmerama, i havnt been able to find anything about that. do accts get deleted after so many months of being inactive like other browser games or do they remain forever?
    i believe wiki said there have been over 30 million registered accts up to 2011, how many more millions after that? even divided into 40 servers that means around 1 million players per server. even if you allow 90% of accts as being inactive that would still leave 100k per server minimum, more than enough for a market. if the 90% of inactive accts are deleted then that would mean around 25,000 accnts per server. i would hope bp would be able to merge servers with only 25,000 accts.
