Neighbor vs Buddy gifts

    I'd like to give someone a gift that is not my neighbor. I clicked on the icon that came to email a buddy but got an opps message. I was typing the name of another farmer into the email slot- not a real email outside the game. I think it is possible to send a gift to a non-neighbor, but I don't know how to do it.
