Had enough of this Summer... we usually only get a couple of warm days. British Summers are usually dodgy and wet, this one is hot and dry..
Not many photo op's at the moment as in the day they are hiding from flies. First thing they are just grazing... no time for reindeer antics.. :(
Jeeves seemed a little "down" first thing, but hubby says I am just being too sensitive, later checks he seemed fine and BOY he can spit replacement milk better than any camel... I'm covered - he doesn't like it and gets stressed... He may be better without me interfering, not sure!

Nice picture of Jeeves and Belle, good thing they have Wilma!;) Maybe because Jeeves seems to almost ( and I obviously have no idea) be off of mothers milk, that maybe less stress is better!:p
And if Katya is letting him "top off" when he needs to he will be ok! It seems he is less than thrilled with what you are giving him! lol I also think that hubby may be right and Jeeves and probably the rest of the herd are "down" because it is just too hot! Fingers crossed and hoping for the best!:inlove:

8)Karen, it's probably just me, but I seem to remember that Tigga is the one with the coat that is more golden than Jeeves and also has the 'roundish' golden forehead. When (if!) you ever get a chance....might want to 'check'...? Could be just a case of mixed up halters, what with all the stress you've been under!:inlove:
(Could also be a case of me being mistaken, but best to make sure, yes?);)

Farmlily, no blue head collar Jeeves, it's just they are moulting out their baby fluff so they are changing to dark brown daily.

Sorry, tuning out for a little while as my problems continue (Lilaclady, don't worry, I've plucked up courage to post).

I'll be back when I have happy news. For now, say a little prayer for us- my vet hasn't a clue what is happening yet... PM results from mine and another herd may eventually help but for now, no answers... Vet's best looked after herds are suffering losses, those in full sun all day are not... Looking for noxious weeds in shade areas.... all at a loss for answers.

Hi Karen I am so sorry for your loss. Glad to hear Grandma is helping out.
My hubby and I watch a lot of Vet program and I do remember them having to deal with an animal with
bloat. They the reason for the issue had to do with the change in the type or brand of pellets
    they used.
I pray that all will all be doing well real soon.

Happycallie, I wish my problems were so easy. Nothing in what I am feeding has changed and in the past any changes I have made were gradual in order for rumen bacteria to adapt slowly.. From one vet to another I have had advice to increase pellets in case they are eating too much clover or next day decrease in case that is causing the acidosis, at all times I have been making sure hay/haylage & straw is at every place in paddocks that they rest.. but bloat was haemorragic. Vet input so far has been **** wish my previous vet hadn't retired, these college kids can't look beyond the obvious..... I have lost 3, including my heart reindeer yesterday. Vet walked my paddocks on Thursday after losing Ana and all he could come up with was a few tiny patches of clover, which I have always had and clover is good unless beyond 25% of food intake.
Yesterday I found Arum Maculatum in a hedgerow in Home Paddock (one plant and had been nibbles on... birds, rabbits or reindeer?), it is native, grows in shade and usually not palatable but in periods of draught it apparently becomes more poisonous & more palatable)... Is that the cause??? I don't know.... but I removed every berry I could see (not usually fruiting until Autumn but we have had draught) and took the risk of turning them into a hay field with far more lush grass (which in itself could cause acidosis) to avoid any berry I had missed. Have I found the answer? not sure, I am beyond.... They seem so well until they crash and then 60 minutes of trying everything - and I mean everything to keep them alive and failing (having nightmares what I had to try to keep Ana alive until vet arrived & we still lost her within 60 minutes).... Must be a toxin as usual bloat shows signs earlier, even though I know reindeer hide stuff..
My heart boy, luckily, or unluckily I never saw him crash, he did it overnight. Last check, happy and healthy, chewing cud, poohs normal, playfully nudging me, in morning gone.
Taken the risk of turning into hay meadow, if usual acidosis then this may be a risk as grass far more lush at base but I don't think it was, think poisoning ... but it's a risk I have to take until I know cause... Wits end... Please say a little prayer for them. They all seem fine BUT then I thought my boy Hector was too..

Input will be hit and miss until we're all back on track.. I'm beyond numb...
Baby Jeeves who I thought I may loose after Ana's death, is doing well (foreground of pic) still spits his milk but Katya and Twig are looking after him... only good news.

Oh no Karen, that's so sad. I'm crying here. I can't really pray as I don't have a religion but I'm hoping so hard you don't lose any of the others.

I am unable to think of the words to express how badly I feel for you at the devastating blows you and the herd have suffered, and are still suffering, at these unexplainable losses. I know that nobody can fight harder than you are, to get to the root cause of these deaths, and to try and safeguard the rest of the herd.
