The pictures of Thor and Loki are absolutely great. Your "baby" boys have grown into magnificent reindeer and they are obviously well loved and cared for. I think that the people that release those balloons have no common sense at all, they should be prosecuted for being so irresponsible. It is good to know that Freddy will be kept entire for a little longer, so that he can visit next year if necessary.

To be honest, very disappointed with the lack of response from the School for their balloon release..

I played the part, sent the required email and shared a photo for the kids of the balloon remnants with my reindeer and the postcode (zip) where it was found BUT added another paragraph for the organisers to make them aware that the burst balloons can kill our livestock (not just reindeer but sheep and cattle too).... For goodness sake we in the UK can be fined for littering with an apple core let alone something that can kill animals. Anyway over 24 hours now and no response - I just hope they have taken it on board but a courteous reply and thank you was the very least I expected... Hey ho...

Today I ear tagged the final two babies. There is something about Storm, as he cannot hide his emotions, bless him. Both he and Belle kept their ears at "half mast". Hopefully by tomorrow they will be used to their tagged ear again and forget the "Huge" weight attached to it. ;)

That is kind of funny, poor Belle and Storm with one ear down, I hope they get use to it real soon!:inlove:
As for the balloon people, you really would think some kind of acknowledgement would be in order and a good time to have a teaching lesson for the students too! If they do not they are dropping the ball in
    my humble opinion!:)

I will give them, maybe a week to reply, and if no acknowledgement of a "thank you and we are sorry" but that we were unaware that our massive balloon release can kill animals" Then I may find a way to let them know publicly that this wasn't their best plan ever!
I would love them to respond, saying "thank you and we weren't aware that our promotion could kill animals. We have taken it on board and will make sure that littering the countryside with rubber/plastics is REALLY not a good idea an will educate our children to this fact".. Here's hoping!

Brilliant! My plan "B" is, if the school is not to far away, to show up, in a nice manner of course, and ask to see the headmaster/principal or whom ever is in charge at that school, and explain your story to them, maybe they will listen and again use this as a learning tool! Fingers crossed. Maybe you could set up a kind of talk about your herd and how things in the environment affect all creatures in nature! I know like you need more work! But just a thought!;)

Great idea, if on doorstep, but that darned balloon travelled what would take me 2 hours to drive one way...

Smiles/ or blood pressure increasing as recent photo's of the baby Gandalf who is promised to me, "if" their cattle herd get through two more lots of TB testing... He's beautiful but several reasons why he may never join my herd... HE IS my hope to the future... and he's gorgeous... Earliest for TB test free " if for once luck is on my side" is late December... He's the middle calf with white patches.. and I just know with looking at him he'll be quite impressive just next year. :) Just keep your fingers crossed that Jennie eventually gets clear TB tests. :)

I know that 2 hours one way is a long way to travel but perhaps the lesson you wish to teach (not releasing things into the environment that can harm livestock)would have a greater impact if some of the reindeer could make a field trip. It would be memorable for both the students and the teaching staff and have a longer lasting positive impression than a note reprimanding them for a school project. If travel is not possible for you, would you be able to invite them to see your reindeer on your property. They could see the herd first hand and learn so much from you.

As a child, our class released balloons too and it was a great fun project that we eagerly awaited to receive news about how far our balloons went. None of it was done with any malicious intent to surrounding livestock. I don't remember how far my balloon went but I was excited that the person who found it wrote back as not all were that fortunate. I only remember it was redxD
Good luck with the resolution whatever you decide to do.

Keeping you in thought that all goes well with the tests, that Frodo continues to improve and that your herd's general overall health is the best it can be as you begin the changing of seasons and move into winter.

Oh yes, Gandalf is very beautiful! Really hoping he will pass ALL his health tests and then can come to you...better late, than never, considering the devastating year you and your herd has had!
It is too bad that the school is so far away BUT puppiesnponies idea to bring a reindeer is also brilliant!:inlove:

Gandalf looks a very handsome young chap and I do hope that all goes well with the tests and that he can join your "family". As Sanddollar said, better late than never. As far as that school is concerned it doesn't say a lot for the teaching staff or head if they do not respond.

I am disappointed in the failure of the school to acknowledge your letter. Whether or not they agree with you, a polite response should at least be offered. Many people are unaware of how harmless appearing balloon releases can affect animals. Young animals in particular will often sample what older ones will pass by.

Gandalf is a fine fellow indeed! Blessings on the tests, so that he may bring hope and happiness to you and your beautiful reindeer.

Willow, all my lot are awful experimenting on nibbling at things... :( Still no response from school not even a thank you for pictures of balloon with reindeer to share with kids, let alone the "educational" bit..

My herd update... Storm has now come to terms with his ear piercing and is no longer drooping his ear tagged ear... He's forgotten about it and now has his happy face back on... Got to love him for his very expressive face. :)

    Just tell me NO!!!
This little girl isn't a reindeer and doesn't fit in with any business plan... but I NEED HER and would need to find a mini donkey companion. Also would need to divide off extra paddocks off and sort water supplies.. Doesn't make sense BUT!!! ;)

Stand down everyone.. I contacted them immediately and was planning to drive hundreds of miles for her tomorrow... but she is no longer for sale BUT they may have others at the end of October (3 times the price), and no pictures available. I should have guessed when I saw her advertised on different sites as a 2 year old mini Jenny or a 4 year old mini Jenny?? To me she looked like a foal but healthy so I was in... But I now think it was false advertising to sell others... Who knows but I can't buy her... :(

I'm sorry but I must disagree. I think that you already have enough on your plate and don't need a mini donkey.

EDIT: Had this typed but didn't post until after you did yours.
