Couldn't log in here yesterday after birth so a little late sharing the news.

Katya has safely delivered a "Monster" of a baby boy, no wonder she had a big belly 6.9kg, 15lbs 4 oz! He's already bigger than Fergie! I'll try to get a photo of mother and son standing together today, as I'm sure he'll easily reach her belly at birth!

That's great news on the safe delivery of Katya's calf! Congratulations to you both (but especially to Katya, as she did do all the work of growing him)

"The Monster" less than 24 hours old.

Already brave - running in between the herd despite Katya panicking.
Mothers' prefer to protect them for the first few days but he's having none of that seclusion nonsense! :)

He is a really gorgeous (not so little!) chap. Katya will be kept busy keeping an eye on him!

:( The pictures won't load for me. The first one is fine where they are laying down (previous page) but all I get from the newest post is IMG in brackets.

Maybe because I don't do Facebook?

    Now they are there!!! :)

Is that Sir Frodo with the nice round belly on the far left in the background of the pic of the herd? :)

Donkey brown colour, in mostly Summer coat, - yes that's daddy Frodo.

Noelle, could it be your caches or whatever as others can see them? No computer buff here but it seems odd that you can't see them.

Just added a random snap to make my replies slightly more interesting!

I know many will think me heartless for this post. But for me I prefer to know pretty soon after birth if they will be going to another home eventually. I can still love them while they are with me but not get seriously in love.

I was approached a couple of months ago by a reindeer owner that I respect to do a female calf swap. As hard as it is, it would make a lot of sense if I swapped Fergie as I already have 3 female calves from Twiglet (genetic pool etc, etc), so she may not stay with us... the calf swap would be this girl whose mother is also white so she would be great for a future partner for Gandalf.

Ohhh Karennnnn she is ABSOLUTELY adorable, with beautiful markings!!!! :inlove: I'd trade as well, just to keep your gene pool as scattered/unrelated/diverse as possible, hope all turns out well ;) Just LOOK at that cute little face !!! :inlove::inlove::inlove:

Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: I agree with Peeps above. Genetic diversity is what keeps the herd healthy overall, kudos for thinking of that.

What a sweet photo of your baby boy! You really have an eye for good photos, Karen. As to swapping Fergie, it is a practical move that benefits both herds. And what a charming prospective swap! :inlove: Her mother is absolutely gorgeous.

The little white girl is gorgeous, she would be a great addition to your herd.

    He has a name :)...
I have been calling him "My Monster" for days so now he has become a "Munster".... Meet Herman, introducing himself to his "big" sister. Herman left, Fergie right (she is 9 days older and they grow fast but not fast enough for Herman)!
