Frodo hasn't stripped his velvet and the "vents" under his eyes haven't opened but he is definitely started to get into rutting mode.
He has started dipping his nose in the puddles the girls make and this is his reaction as he smells their hormone levels... [IMG]:)

I think Frodo is waiting for the girls to "get in the mood!"xD Every time I see a recent photo of Frodo I am amazed at the beautiful animal he has turned out to be! I still have that awful, horrid picture in my head of that poor pathetic boy you rescued from
in my opinion, almost certain death! Just look at him now!!:inlove::inlove: Karen ,I hope you are very proud of what you have accomplished,
    if not, you should be!:inlove:

I have posted this on reindeer sites but haven't, as yet had a useful comment (but early days) I think one or two people on here have animal experience.. Inter digital cysts are found in other animals..
    "
Possible inter digital cyst? I have a cow that has been intermittently, mildly lame (depending a lot on surface walked on) for a week. It seems the problem is the foot by the way she favours it.
I keep checking and rechecking. Hoof & frog fine, no obvious signs of infections but today I felt between toes & seems there is thickening between front two "toes". Even will pressure no signs of pus or heat but this is the only thing I can find. Could be grass seed or a puncture wound with infection brewing??? She's acting normally/eating well.
Anyone had similar or have a "witches brew" to draw out whatever is there as I really don't want a full op yet?"

Anyone on here had this issue in dogs etc??

Edit, today I thought I had a plastic bag in hedgerow but no, another baby white rabbit born to the wild population.

I had a dog that had a thorn tip embedded in a pad. Base of thorn had broken off (or her teeth had dealt with part of it). It was a hard spot with no sign of infection. Treated with tincture of iodine on the spot, then washed foot after iodine had absorbed in case of licking. Thorn tip surfaced after a few treatments and could be removed. Not sure if this is helpful or not for your situation.

Thanks Willow, closest to solution so far.. No sign of any penetration but I am bathing daily and in a way hoping for an infection so that if there is a foreign body infection will push it out. She isn't very lame at all just "favouring" slightly. I am still of the mind that it's a thorn or grass seed embedded but without a real infection yet... I am watching daily as I am sure I can deal with once it "comes to a head" far easier than the worry of a general anaesthetic and op... I'm going day by day as she is still galloping just for fun and the interdigital problem is only the size of a pea. :)

Name of lame cow is Lotte (Twiglet's 3 year old baby), she looks fabulous, eating well, carry plenty of weight etc... I will try to remember to take a photo of her for you tomorrow but she looks great, no issues apart from limp and she even gallops just for fun. I have pain meds but am loathed to apply, for humans or animals, as in most instances I believe hiding pain can create more issues.
Fly infections at the moment are a more immediate issue. This year we are plagued by them... All three babies have had serious eye infections... now sorted, but growing antlers on 80 % of adults have infections due to flies... Spoken to vet, antibiotics are unlikely to reach extremities, especially now that antlers are hardening and less blood supply, so I have to wait it out as antler should be hardening to bone and velvet stripped in the next couple of weeks but flies spread infections from one to another... not your normal house flies but the blood sucking demons commonly known as stable flies.
My entire boys awaiting the rut and hiding from flies - Gandalf and Frodo (with last years baby girl Tigga too).
Gandalf (paler boy) just 15 months, boy he has grown like a beanpole over the last few months.
Still undecided as to which girls go in which paddocks.. Optimum all spotty nosed/blazes and Lotte (who has produced an albino) would go in with Gandalf but reality says too many with Gandalf and also need to consider girls hips... never thought I would have to worry about Frodo being too heavy for any girl!!! :) A wonderful worry for me and anyone that met him 11 months ago!!! :)

xDxDxD... Silly me... I thought you were talking about a Moo Cow! xDxDxD I hope Lotte sorts that hoof soon. :inlove:
Both those boys have a nice size belly, and it looks like Frodo has more developed muscle in his hips. I know he is a year older, but he has come a very long way since you introduced him.

Joan, Frodo is 2 years older than Gandalf but Gandalf had a smooth transition to adulthood. Gandalf is still only a BIG baby (15 months), he's not carrying loads of weight yet but not too concerned as he has grown more than 12" at shoulder in last 6 months, typical teenager!

Thank you Karen. It's no wonder Gandalf looks a bit gangly. Just like my teenagers did.

Interesting problem in deciding who goes in with Frodo - because of his great condition! :D It makes my heart happy!

Fergie update... You get more of her as she's this years character. I am so pleased (in a way) that I promised her before she was born or I know I wouldn't be able to sell her. For genetic diversification it makes sense for her not to stay with me BUT this girl is bombproof.

Everyday she and Katya "help" me mix feed in my feed store (Boris used to but his large antlers may have put him off due to lack of space). With feed bins, tools and various dross, there is very little space in there...
This morning Fergie pushed past me to explore - she climbed on everything, thing were crashing down on her (luckily only sprinkler and lightweight stuff) but nothing phased her. I was in a quandary - Katya had head in feed bin, so I couldn't just drop metal lid or it would have broken her growing antlers. So had to back Katya out slowly, close feed bin then not panic or Fergie may have done too. Katya out, Fergie still just gently exploring/climbing... so chance to take a photo before I gently picked Fergie up, relocated her into paddock.... then closed myself in dark in order to prepare feed without "help"!
As you can see no sign of any stress - this girl will be a perfect exhibition reindeer - lifts (elevators) she'll be up for anything!

Sounds as though you had a great time in the feed store this morning. You will miss Fergie's "help" when she goes to her new home.

What a wonderful way to get breakfast going! lol:p She is just too cute and truly a character! It would break my heart to have to let her go too, but you must do what is right for your herd!:inlove:

Brooke... :(. Twiglet has had 4 daughters, so that's an awful lot of her genes already in a small herd. If I kept Fergie I would have to sell some of her older sisters which I am not prepared to do as they already have a huge part of my heart and I promised them a life here. :( I was approached by a reindeer friend (who looks after his herd well) before my calves where born as to doing a female calf swap as he too finds his girls are getting too closely related. At which time I said if Twiglet, yet again, had a female calf then yes that would make perfect sense for me too. So she was booked before she was born it's always hard to part with any but I have to and the baby boys unfortunately need to be sold too but as yet the right homes have not appeared but hopefully they will.
As much as I love each and everyone, it is not possible to let my heart rule my head. To be honest after last years atrocities of losing Freya, Ana and my gorgeous boy Hector within 10 days and later Ana's calf Jeeves, I then purchased Frodo as only adult bull available in UK, for the rut (but a risk as to whether he would live - he did) but in meantime I ordered a baby boy Gandalf to cover this years rut in case Frodo didn't make it... I then purchased Ria (as another friend was having divorce issues) But was really stretching finances (purchased stock over £9000) but I could do it!!! Then we have had a ridiculous summer for the UK with no rain/graze, so feed bills have trebled and high vet meds as the flies are creating & spreading eye/antler infections. Nightmare time for me this year - knock on problems... We'll get there but I have to think with head not heart. :(
But a happy for all, rather than sharing my problems, which you really don't need to know :) (Horrible) Heptovac injections for babies today and also a second one for Ria as she didn't have as a baby..
I asked a friend to help as vaccine once broached need to be used within 10 hours so I can't rely on my gentle stalking methods (I need a plan B)..
It was a brilliant session, no stress at all... I filled 4 syringes with the 2mls of vaccine before I prepared morning feed. Before I filled second syringe, Fergie was at my side in feed store.... her bottom got jabbed without a lead rope or even holding her.. she helped me prepare syringes for the rest.. Jabbed the other two babies while they were eating, again no stress. Ria needed vaccine too but both she and Katya needed antibiotics as fly infections have spread but they needed weighing for dose. I jabbed vaccine into Ria while she ate but put lead rope on and left it dangling while I dragged out scales (boy they are heavy and in hindsight that was were second set of muscles was needed) Got a weight on Ria, prepared injection (forgot which thigh I had given vaccine but hey ho), jabbed her and Katya is always a breeze to catch, get on scales inject... So all done, so happy. As it happened I could have done all myself BUT when there's only a 10 hour window for a drug - I NEED belt and braces.
I still have to get to the bottom of Lottes mild lameness... but that's next weeks problem. :(
