Positive thoughts coming your way from California that Mischa's baby is alive, kicking and more than happy to stay right where she is until her due date! ;)

Don't be so sure. We had a Redbone hound once, best dog ever, but a bit on the sensitive side. I laughed at him once over something he did (long story, but funny), and I swear, he wouldn't "talk" to me for over a week. If I came in the kitchen to where he could see me (our boys sleep in the back entry), he'd turn his head away and wouldn't look at me.xD He finally forgave me, but he NEVER forgot:p:wuerg:xDxD.

Hope Mischa's baby is hanging in there, and mother and baby are resting comfortably.

Mischa update.. She seems okay in herself, temperature normal, at the moment, and eating well. Haven't seen baby moving for a couple of days but then they are asleep most of the time, so nothing unusual there and I have had a few hectic days (hence only getting onto here at 12:55am, yet I'm normally in bed by 9pm!!!)
Planning tomorrow (or at least later today) on spending most of the day on "Belly Watch" - my Birthday treat to myself!!!

Hector is still "out of sorts" only due to his antler drop and hence dropping to the bottom ranking in the herd, which he isn't too keen on. His limp gone completely but he's still not his playful self but then again when Boris dropped last year he really sulked for weeks - at the moment he is enjoying giving poor Hector a hard time!

First, I'm so glad to hear Mischa is doing well...and still carrying the baby. I was a bit worried when we didn't hear from you for a couple of days. I adore all your pic's....but especially those with Hector in them. In the 1st one he seems to be diving in and saying "look at me!".
Happy Birthday Karen!!! :D I wish you a happy & relaxed day of tummy watching.:p

Thank you everyone for your wishes...
Didn't take any photo's as weather was miserable BUT the good news is.....
I did my belly watch (I just hope nobody sees me who has access to white straight jackets - staring transfixed at reindeer bellies just can't be normal behaviour!!) and Mischa's calf is still alive in that big tummy, so discharge isn't a sign of a dead calf (decaying) - "I'm alive & kicking"!!! :) :)...
We still have to get it through birth and the first few days as Mischa is running on 0/2 at the moment and I am determined to get her to 1/3 this time...
Ana, I didn't think was in calf but today I thought I might have caught something out of the corner of my eye. She can't cope with me staring at her. She is more wild than my others and it is a primal instinct with wild prey species that eye contact (or at least two eyes looking straight at them is a serious threat).

As a tip to any that might not know, approaching any nervous herbivours, never approach head on or staring at them and keep your hands out of sight or you will appear to be a predator. Approach slowly at about a 45o angle and if they turn to look at you turn your head & eyes down. Not a guaranteed way of getting up close and personal but you have a much better chance. :)

Yay! Mishca n baby on board seem to be doin' ok! I sooo wish I was there tummy watching w/you;). I am so anxious and so nervous for you and your expected babies that I can barely sit still as all of these long, painfully agonizing days go by one by one (I have zero patience wen it comes to gestation or even the incubation and hatching of my fowl and poultry eggs!:sleepy:)

Not sure I said on here or whether it was on FB (can't see it here on a quick look) but excuse me if I have already mentioned but one of the reasons I have been rather busy in the last few days was that I travelled to visit a friend who has a herd of reindeer but she (well husband) also had a 300 head herd of dairy cows and they had kindly collected 20 pints!!! of bovine colostrum, which is now in my freezer on stand by. Just in the hope that Mischa's calf a) will be live born this year and b) if she can't feed it I have the essential antibodies in (at least cow) colostrum to help the baby survive... with 20 pints I can bath the little one in antibodies!!!!
Really trying to get all bases covered with Mischa - Katya and Twiglet I am not too worried about as they have already done a wonderful job of rearing healthy babies... Mischa is my main worry. If Ana is in calf (which I'm not sure about yet) I think she will be a natural as she has the same temperament a Twiglet..... "Come close to my baby and take your life into your own hands!!"
It shouldn't be stressy till late April... but I start thinking of all that can/might go wrong early!!! ;)

Hector has started to be an occasional pain (wrapping his front legs round my neck when I'm crouched down taking photos) so he must be feeling a little better! :(
Today's updates are Katya belly photos (Hector's mother). Last year she didn't have Hector until the 21st May but I am convinced this year she will calf a lot earlier.
While Mischa is "fat" all round (flat back and very full, but she didn't feed a calf last year) Katya has become very pear shaped recently.
I apologise that one photo is of her rear end but in actual fact it shows her shape better..

Anyone who has had breeding animals understands the "southbound view of a northbound animal" photo. For that matter, many of my Yellowstone NP animal pictures have been taken that way! xD

Oh my................Katya is definitely preggers!!!:D I agree with your estimate. Katya's size looks as though she is going to give birth early.:music: I'm glad to hear Hector's up to his old tricks.....he must be feeling better about himself.xD:pxD

Now, I am just thinking and would like suggestions please...
Hector has quite a "fan club" elsewhere and I have his baby set of antlers that I would like to give to someone who would really treasure them. But don't want to launch a boring competition to win them - any suggestions please? A fun caption competition or similar???
Sorry, competition won't be on here as that probably wouldn't be allowed.
But would love your suggestions to make it fun?
