Nothing exciting to report.. The baby girls (Lexi and Freya) are becoming absolute stars.
The rut continues, I am really looking forward to the end, but Hector being a young boy will probably be late coming out of rut.. in the meantime he drops weight..
In about two weeks I will remove my tame girls from his paddock and just leave him with Ana for company.
All a little stressy as we are getting close to booking time...
But on the positive side, the Herds followers on FB are only 8 away from 1.5K... and MANY support us year round.. :)
Reindeer aren't just for Christmas!! ;)

This time you are getting an exclusive News Update...

In order to Share photos on here I usually have to put on their (Reindeer) FB page first BUT I have exciting news that I don't want to completely make public yet, as although I am excited, others are sad. I have exchanged a personal message on FB with a picture and it seems I can share that on here... :)

I had a panic message for help this morning from the lovely people who have Thor and Loki asking if I knew of anyone that could give a home to their only girl. She is causing mayhem, challenging her castrates and causing lots of trouble. I am sure this is only because she has stripped her velvet and castrates don't till much later and she is just trying to get "attention" during the breeding season - the castrates obviously can't help. I never have this problem as girls are in the rutting paddock and "getting attention".
She is very pretty, maybe a little wild and we may have missed this breeding season but maybe if not this year then next we might have a very pretty calf with Hector. She has never had a calf so also that worry that her first may not be viable.. but still excited and prepared for another that may punch me when injections needed (Twig and Ana do anyway!)..
Picture is of her, Thor and Loki 2 months ago... Her winter coat is almost white, like Hector and she has the white blaze! :)

Bless him, hubby is setting off on a 1,000 mile road trip, over 2 days, first thing tomorrow to collect her. She won't arrive with us until after dark on Sunday so no at home pictures till Monday.... Watch this space... :)

So much going on, WOW! So will she be with you permanently? (Guess that means they won't be keeping either Thor or Loki intact.)

Noelle, She will be with us permanently even if she is a bit of a "wild child" if I can't get her to LOVE people, then she won't come out on visits with us but she might become a good mother, eventually. She hasn't ever been a mother, so her first calf may not be viable and we might have missed this breeding season... but she's only about 4 years and very pretty (similar to Hector).. Lots of if's and but's but we can cope... Just a 1,000 mile road trip and am excited about what maybe. :)

It does mean that Thor and Loki will both become castrates but then all/95% male reindeer do as even the easiest males cannot be in public until they drop their antlers.

Well Karen that is very exciting news! It seems like you just have to work your magic on her and over time she will hopefully get to trust you and hubby! Speaking of hubby, bless him for making that long journey, fingers crossed all will be well and come Monday we will get to see her on your farm! :)
She is very pretty does she have a name?! Well thanks for sharing and "Good Luck"!

Karen I am sure that with your love and attention she will soon stop being a "wild child" and settle in nicely with everyone else. You certainly have a great hubby to be making that long journey to collect her. Good luck with her.

They have sent me a more recent photo - she's in isolation at the moment so that she doesn't beat up their castrates. Twiglet will put her in her place once she gets here ;)
Hubby is nearly half way on his journey to Scotland (only another 5 1/2 hours to go), he will stay overnight and head back with her tomorrow.
Getting her into Rutting Paddock will be fun, (especially after dark) as she is not lead rope trained - already thinking of tactics. Even driving trailer in will have problems (opening gate & dropping back of box without being kebabed by Hector). Oh well I'll have to play that one by ear.
Let's hope he's fast asleep and can't smell a new girl in the trailer - some hope!
