I will admit to being somewhat of an overachiever at times so in that spirit I have been trying to read as much as I can of past forum threads. My problem seems to be that I don't understand most of them. o_O

I breezed quickly through the beginners guides with ease but in my attempt to gain insight into game strategies I started reading farmer threads. Suddenly it was as if you were all speaking Swahili. xD

It would help if I could find a glossary of game terminology. I'm sure that at some point I will be illuminated probably when I need to know what the term means in the first place.

Any other newbies out there having the same woes?

Great idea Clashsrummer! I remember when I was new and all these abbreviations kept flying around and I hadn't a clue what they were taking about, and asked numerous and annoying times, what this and that was short for.

Teddy has though compiled a list of the most common abbreviations used in the game:

    Best of luck!

I'm not a newbie anymore, but a year ago when I joined I remember being very confused by all the abbreviations. A lot of the abbreviations people use are for craft products. You've probably seen CAC a lot...that stands for Carrot Apple Chutney. Some other popular ones:
    CB (Carrot Bread)
    ZAB (Zucchini Apple Bread)
    EM (Easter Marmalade)
    SW (Spring Wreath)
    PPP (Pinkie Pie Pie)
    MOS (Mango Orange Smoothie)

There are tons of others, but these tend to be mentioned the most. You can see a full list of craft products (and their definitions) in this thread: https://board-en.farmerama.com/index.php?threads/faq-artisans-village-products.2402/

And remember: if you're reading a strategy thread and see something you don't understand, just ask! We're all happy to help. :)

The FAQs were a huge help to me. In fact, they still are...and I'm not ashamed to say that some of them I've had to read more than once to get the whole idea crammed into my head. The other thing I've discovered (much to the 'overachiever' part of me) is that we can do what we want. We don't have to do everything all the time. You can concentrate on one thing one day and something else the next. For instance, I decided not to participate in this comic#8 quest. Instead, I made money selling manure and cuckoo food. Just wasn't for me. So we gotta learn to let go. I know, it's hard...

Thanks y'all for the information and those links, much appreciated. Can I just ask what is a "buff"?

I'm so new I still squeak, so I know I'll be reading up for some time to come. I'm focused at the moment on making money, earning EP's (see I'm already using my new found knowledge) and since I just hit level 14, stars.

A buff is something we use while sitting around in the buff wearing a Survivor style buff and buffing our shoes. Or...

Not sure what the exact gaming definition is but... it's used to "enhance" or "speed up" the process. Such as CAC to get more yield from a harvest or Valentine Pot to speed up... whatever.

A "buff" is anything that changes the normal quantity, EP or time of a crop, pen, tree or workshop. You can have cloud rows (from the magical beanstalk), craft items (make in Artisan craft buildings, buy from the market, earn from farmwheel spins or be gifted by friends or neighbors) even Fuzzles can gift you some. There are some non-craft items you can win on the farmwheel as well. There are some greenhouse "refinements" that can buff crops as well.

You will be unable to buy craft items until you reach level 40 and some will not be available to purchase until you reach level 70.

LOL, you still squeak...I love it! A buff is a product used to boost or enhance something. The craft products are buffs, for example. Or when Fuzzles the sheep gives you extra Experience Points for a certain amount of time...things like that.

EDIT Cali I was writing as you were posting, didn't mean to repeat ya!

It's okay, steph. We were all writing at the same time.

    Another clarification:

Buffs apply to multiple items and are not applied by you to the items. (Unlike water, manure, SG, SSG and mulch.) The buffs are available for a certain amount of time and you can find out how long your buff has by checking the clock(s) in the menu at the left side of your screen. Buffs will be in your personal buff clock listing (the round circle with your farm crest on it.) Just click on it to see them (you may need to scroll over if you have lots of buffs running). If you cannot see your crest, either you don't have the menus on that side showing or you have no buffs running. (The only exception being "refinements". Another topic for you later.)

And, I think that because Clashstrummer is only at level 15, he may not be able to see or use most of the 'buffs'. I gathered up a few myself (when I bought some of the cheesemasonII baskets) and could see them, but not USE them until I hit level 40. So close, yet so far away. So then after level 40 was also the first time I noticed my personal 'farm clock' (it's right under the event clock, Clashstrummer). So that might be why some of this just doesn't make sense - we can't use it yet! (I just hit level 54 this afternoon, so I'm still learning lots of things, too!)

While the craft descriptions say "from level 40" I have sent craft items to lower level players and they have been able to use them. You just cannot buy them before that. You just have to look in your pantry in the barn to see what you may have been given that you might use. After all, you can buy event baskets with CAC and other craft items in them. If you spend real money on it, you should be able to use it.

hmmmm...the 'use it' button stayed grayed out when I selected it up until level forty...I think. Or maybe I just was too chicken to try it thinking I might waste it.

Note that the basket comes with CAC and Spring Wreaths. The description says level 2.

You can use things like Carrot Apple Chutney at a lower level if someone sends them to you.

Thanks for the information on the term "buffs". That actually helps a lot with my understanding on some of the threads. I've got stuff I can't use yet, no idea where it's coming from but I have it. Not any of the artisan items in question however.

BlackCaviar has proved that I was just too chicken to try it for fear I would just be wasting it...that's what I get for overthinking things. So moral of the story - don't be afraid to try the CAC (carrot apple chutney) - it does wonders for your crop numbers.

As a relative newbie, I have a question somebody may be able to answer (I think Teddy_bear is getting fed up of me posting in the tech and general issue threads)
With the craft items - the cheese balls etc that "speed up production in your animal housing": does this affect all the animal housing, or just those that produce more animals and manure (ie: horse stables), or does it also affect the egg and wool production housing?
[sorry if this is the wrong thread for this question, but I spent 10 minutes or so looking at threads and considered this the home of those of us floundering in the wind)

"Production housing" is considered workshops, which are different. When a craft item says it speeds of animal housing, it means animal stables (such as horses, cows, etc.). When the craft item says it speeds up workshops, it means production of wool, eggs, etc. Does that help? :)

Hi :D not so much - my question is about the animal housing ie: does it include the egg farm, shearing sheds etc, or is it only the stables where they .... live and play

I understand your question, I'm not sure you understood my answer ;) Animals housing = stables that produce animals. Workshops = stables that produce eggs, wool, etc. Therefore, if you're using a craft item that speeds up animal housing, it speeds up stables that produce animals. Buildings that produce things like wool are NOT considered animal housing, they are considered workshops. So animal housing craft items do not apply to them. Not sure how else to explain this to you. Animal housing and workshops are two different kinds of buildings.
