I thought the * was multiplication but that doesn't seem to be the case. Can anyone enlighten me? :p
I'm nowhere near either, Cassie, but I am trying to follow the leaders! :D

The * is multiplication. My closest attempt computes like this:

    36 * 18 = 648
    648 - 4 = 644
    644 / 7 = 92
    92 + 295 = 387

    (36 * 18 - 4 )/ 7 + 295 = 387

Aha, I was thinking that the first number was to be divided by 7 PLUS 295! xD
I have often said that my maths needs a lot to be desired! :wuerg:

Hi lovely people. I plan to post the solution on game 1 around midnight (CEST +2), that's roughly 5:30 hours away from the time of this post. Due to its complexity I'll grant everyone who posts an attempt on Game 1, half a point for participating and the effort.

I'll post a new game, which I promise will be easier to solve, sometime tomorrow (mostlikely early afternoon).

  6. If I have understood correctly there is a family of solutions.o_O
In that case here is one.
    (18 * 20 - 6) / 3 + 259 = 377

Hihihi, no I didn't. Use each number once.....

I'll say well done - but will edit if I am mistaken lol! ;)

I'm mistaken - but well done anyway! xD

It was quite a challenge but that were some good efforts, thank you all for trying!

    The solution on game 1:

    ?? * ?? - ? / ? + ??? = 377

    14 * 36 - 9 / 5 + 278 = 377

    123456789

    14 * 36 = 504 >< (36 * 14 would've been fine too)
    504 - 9 = 495
    495 / 5 = 99
    99 + 278 = 377

Next game will be posted june 13, early afternoon, prior to event start. Stay tuned!

Ahh ok. I expected the divisor to be rather large, so I tried combinations divided by 9, 8, 7, 6. Didn't get as far as 5 xD

I tried several methods and thought I was progressing fine but got struck in middle in each of them. xD
habalala, Is there any special techique to arrive at that answer ?

    Game 2

Present a math with the outcome 1000 by adding up eight 8

    @12ss12
I don't know of a methodical way to solve the puzzle but I started working backwards with the answer being 377 and so the + ??? had to be 376 or lower making the first digit there (digit #7) 1, 2 or 3. From there on I started to search for the divisor (like -mir- did), leaving out 1,2,3 and starting with it being 4; also looking for combo's giving whole numbers. This way I soon found out the multiplication total had to be somewhere in the 500 range. Still a thousand plus possibilites but it excluded digit #1 and #3 to be over 5 and most likely contained a 1 (which leaves digit #7 to be a 2 or 3). Further elimination, trial and error, determination, several hours of calculations, paper and pen .. in the end gave tremendous satisfaction.

Silim earned a point by being the first to post a correct answer.

    Reminder from the initial post:
At times multiple solutions are possible, then do post yours if it's different from the previous one(s). If correct you'll get 0.5 point.

I say: go for it! :)
