    HI
I am looking to go away...nothing major...but someone today mentioned Cambridge Forrest in Maine? First did I get it wrong and that doesnt exist? 2} is that worth a trip? I vacationed in Maine, Mass, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island etc...But have never heard of this...any other suggestions?

Not looking for beachy but relaxing...I mean all of them offer whale watching, which I love...but that cant be the only thing

My vote was for Vermont....great cheese and Ben & Jerrys>>>even though i would not go there just for a 30 minute tour. One of my the clan insisted that great tasting Salmon be available...I am not driving somewhere to get Salmon....directed her to Stew Leonard's LOL

I have been yearning to go to Yellowstone...but I dont think I can convince the massess....I do hear its beautiful

What part of Mass.? There is so much there. In Maine you have the LLBean Store, lobster, clams and great seafood. In Mass were you in the Berkshires or Boston or cape cod. All very different. I want to go to Yellowstone also! Suppose to be great. What do you like to do or not do?? Busy or not busy. LOL.

I love the Berkshires. That's my place to go to relax. Will be there for a week this summer on a lake in a little nothing town. Love it! There's also a lot to do there if you want, Tanglewood, summer stock theater and hiking, etc.

    8) Oh, yes, elimeno! Lottidah suggested one of the beautiful places to go and relax - the Berkshires!!
It has been an Artist's haven practically since these rolling Hills were discovered by early Settlers. Many famous paintings of this area hang in Museums all over...it's the quality of the light. And if you remember, Norman Rockwell - who painted many of the Saturday Evening Post, Life, and other magazine covers - had a studio in Stockbridge till he died, which has been turned into the Norman Rockwell Museum now...I'm sure you'd recognize many of his works!!

There is also an old Shaker Village (see below), and much more...

    8) LOL! - I used to be a 'collector' of sorts, and Rockwell's work was offered on a lot of things. I also found information online, but I've always been interested in the arts (and sciences!), and Norman Rockwell is famous, especially here in Massachusetts.
I hope that wherever you go, elimeno, you'll be able to relax and have a good time!:):)

Thanks...we used to use my mothers time share...it was in Aruba, but we would use it to go to other places like all over the New England area, Florida, Virginia, Puerto Rico...some of the exchanges were gorgeous. I am going with a friend...since kids are all grown. As long as I get to do some whale watching...I do love it but u only ever really get to see them when they dive. In Alaska it was kinda the same with the whales but u got to see some wild dolphins.

Originally she wanted to go to this elephant sanctuary in Tennessee. But then she found out that you dont get to interact with the elephants but instead shovel up after them...I would have been really unhappy if we went there and she didnt know this.[IMG]

PS didn't know Norman Rockwell has a collection in the city...shame what us natives dont know about...

Farmlily3, You did a great job of describing the Berkshires! There used to be a place called the music barn and we used to see all the big Jazz musicians there. It was just a tent attached to a house with bleacher seats and lawn seats. very small. Great!

    8) Thank you, lottidah....same to you for the jazz music barn! Do you know what happened to it?? Do you live in MA.?

Elimeno, what a perfect answer - Home! As much as we like to get away, coming home is always a comforting place to be.

I don't know what happened to it. I loved that place. did you ever go there? I grew up in Conn. and we went to the Berkshires in the summer ( East Otis,pop.50 in winter) I saw some great people there, Louis Armstrong, etc. I'll be there this summer for a week. Favorite place!!

    8) Small world, lottidah! I was born in Connecticut, and lived/visited there off and on my whole life, as my Grandparents lived there and had a summer camp there off Bradley Lane, just southeast of Newtown/Sandy Hook near Lake Zoar. (My sister actually started first grade in that 'infamous' school in Newtown, back when it was a good school.)
Camp was Party Central for the family, and my Grandparents were always having weekend gatherings for their friends, too. (One year we came from California for a week @ Camp!) As a child, one of my favorite places was the Root Cellar!!(yes-I said r-o-o-t cellar!LOL!) It was stacked with cases and cases of s-o-d-a....which - since my parents did not allow us to have them except on rare occasions - was like a magical wonderland! As were the surrounding woods - beautiful CT woods just made for walking/exploring/breathing in that special scented, oxygen rich air!:inlove: Ahhhh - childhood!

Sadly, I never went to the Music barn...it sounds like great fun! That is such a lovely, lovely area, the Berkshires. The pictures I posted did not do it justice! What great memories of childhood you must have too!:)

Oh, What fun you must have had at your grandparents camp. We were in a little town called East Otis, Mass. on a lake called Big Pond! Oh, do I love it there. You would have loved the music barn.
You weren't allowed to have soda either? Either was I. My mother wouldn't allow us to have candy in the house either!
People don't realize how beautiful western Conn. is.

    8) I've seen Otis/East Otis on the map...lots of beautiful country around there!! You're right - I'm sure I'd have loved the Music Barn!! Yes, this New England countryside gets in the blood!

We did have fun, lottidah! Camp left indelible memories on our hearts - so much good, clean country fun!!
My Grandparents had built a very large brick fireplace/grill for the parties, long party tables nearby, a horseshoe pit over near the edge of the woods, a badminton net on the lawn, Adirondack chairs were scattered around under this tree and that, and a hammock was strung between a couple of trees.
It was the most relaxing, happy place I've ever been! The dark, earthy, mysterious root cellar, piled high with such 'treasures' (forbidden 'goodies'), just made it magical to us kids!!

My Grandparents were nature lovers (it runs in the family!) and loved to hike - even hiked up Mt. Washington. I have an unintentionally funny photo of them getting near the top...Grandpa was posing there tall and proud, gazing over the land they had just 'conquered'...and then there was my Grandmother, with a loaded backpack still on her back - bent over a bit under the weight, hair mussed, the look on her face telling all: "Thank the Lord we made it!!" (puff, puff!)

Ha Ha! love the picture of them. Use to take my kids up there when they were little. we would drive back to N.J. and as soon as we crossed into N.J. both kids would say oooohh what's that smell. They were so used to that good fresh air.
Can't wait to visit in July. Does your family still have the camp? They should have an adult camp week!!
