Red Pens upgrades only?

Is the red pen just an upgrade?
If not, then I did not get a base to put it on, and it does not want to be placed on the field alone.
My ID# is 54242084, (just in case it should be there).
I checked the FAQ before asking here. It does not identify the red pen as an upgrade - to be placed on a base pen. Not all upgrades require a base pen.
This is my first time getting an upgrade manufacture pen in an event. I expected to be able to place it beside the first one received.

You haven't specified which red pen you are referring to, but both red pens offered in stage 8 of the Going Wild event are given as upgrades only as the base pen is awarded in stage 6.

I've checked your account and both your base quill studio and candle workshops are placed on your main farm, with the red quill studio in inventory. You have not completed the final stage to get the red candle workshop yet.

Thank you Neon-Lights for clarifying that. Just got the Candle upgrade too. Now they will match.
