Yeah, none of us had any meat tenderizer LDCrow! The next best thing on google was baking soda. I made a thick paste and held it into the breeze for the cooling effect and when it dried and flaked off I just slathered more on! The worst part was reading that there really was nothing else to do and it was going to last for 8-10 hours!!

The Southwest Gulf Coast region in Texas. Although most of the Southwest area in the US has plenty of stinging and biting creatures.

You should add farmlily3 that should be "raw" honey as in unpasteurized. Having lived in the country pretty much all of my life I've been stung and bitten by most things at least once. I did come close to dieing at the age of 4 from a brown recluse spider bite. I really don't remember it though since I was so young so no real trauma from it on my part.

8)Oh LDCrow!! Do you know what was done for the spider bite??? I am fighting a battle right now with multiple 'brown recluse' bites, and there are moments when it feels like a losing battle. I live in an apt. complex, and I've heard of another being bitten likewise. They have an exterminator come monthly, but it doesn't seem to be doing much good. That was when I was bitten - after he had been here. I guess it made them mad instead.

Spiders are tough to get rid of and exterminators can't do much to help! A brown recluse bite really needs to be tended by a doctor as it can cause great problems with infection and your flesh dying! I am in central Texas and they are pretty bad here this spring.

We get them here in Montana too. Of all things creepy and crawly, I hate spiders the most.-.- I hope you are able to find help for your bites, farmlily.:(

8)Thanks labmommy. I'm having no problems with any kind of infection, but the necrosing factor is exceedingly painful and comes in waves. The toxin is now in my blood and causes nausea-with-pain as well. Plus it is so difficult for my body to fight it that it's putting me to sleep frequently to go into healing mode. It's kind of weird to be doing something....and then wake up still doing it! Green tea and honey (both are healers and antibacterial and antiviral) does seem to help....until the next wave. The Dr. prescribed zinc oxide, which helps, but does nothing for cleansing the blood of toxins...so I've added zinc citrate and zeolite and other toxin-neutralizing minerals to my 'diet'. They do help, but still, it continues to come in waves. Guess (hope) it will just take time to work its way out of my system. I hope it will anyway.

Thanks spots! There doesn't seem to be all that much help out there for this kind of bite, so I guess it's sort of "The Lord helps those that help themselves".

You need to see a Dr. as soon as possible. There is an anti-venom they can give you that will help. The bite was on my ankle and my leg was wrapped in wet cold towels and covered in a plastic bag. This was to draw the venom down and out and keep it from spreading to the rest of my body. I ran a dangerously high fever and was in such sever danger because I was so young. I do know the venom attacks the nervous system and if not treated properly can cause you serious problems. You can also have recurring sores for the rest of your life. Go see a Doctor!!!!

Oh spiders....yuck. I can not tell you how happy I am that I only witnessed this story and that it didn't actually happen to me. My Grandparents lived on Lake Texhoma when I was young. We would spend family holidays there. This was 4th of July holiday and I would have been 8 at the time and my older sister was 15. We were all going out on a boat to do some fishing and we (the kids) were standing back while the adults got the boat into the water.

Suddenly out of the trees ran a tarantula, a very large black one. It made a bee line for my sister and ran right up her leg. Predictably she screamed as if the leg had just been severed from her body. She knocked it off and continued the screaming adding in jumping and just in general having a hysterical fit (totally understandable). My brother grabbed a large stick and beat the thing into about 6 pieces. Now the minute I saw the spider I was in the lake so I watched all this from the safety of the water. I've always heard that they will leave you alone but man I saw this first hand and that spider attacked without provocation of any kind.

8)Oh, Clash, that is so awful!! If that were me I'd be traumatized for life!! Your sister has my sympathies!!! That was pretty smart of you to jump in the water. Good thinking!
My poor, sweet little kitty was bitten on the foot by a tarantula - one that must have been someone's pet that got loose. It was very painful for her and she limped around for a few days, but there was no venom, fortunately! She was curious and had tapped at it with her paw, as cats do.

Lily- take care of yourself and I do hope you feel better soon. How long does it take to recover from a brown recluse bite?
    Hugs and prayers:)

These are truly some frightening stories! Some of them gave me shiversxD

( of course I just dreamed it but I still laugh about this & he wants to know how I saw spider in the dark) xDxDxD

Real animal story now no dream, Hubby and I were out in yard and we were on upper side of terraced stone wall. I was looking over edge at flower garden below when he say don't move of course I move and there was a Huge water moccasin snake right between my feet and it chased me as I moved OH MAN did I scream ugh snakes!

OK, funny one now .... My African grey parrot, Max, is hilarious, he is completely self opinionated and obnoxious, he drives me quite demented at times with his arguing and his rapid addition to his vocabulary. The house dogs are frequently tormented by his demands that they return to their beds and lie down before rewarding himself by telling everyone how clever he is. So far his best achievement has been learning my husbands very distinctive command whistles for the collies. Last week, as my poor hubby was trying to bring a mob of several hundred sheep into the farmyard, Max, safely tethered to my arm, but unfortunately, not gagged insisted on helping. For every walk up command hubby gave to the dog, Max responded with a stop command, for every left command, Max responded with a right or a stop command. The dog was completely and utterly confused, the sheep were bolting in all directions, hubby was hopping up and down with rage and the onlooking farm staff were laughing so hard they were struggling to stand up. xDxD

Max is no longer allowed to accompany me to the farm

8)LOLOL!! Fuuunny, funny storiesxDxD Thanks you guys - needed that badly....or maybe 'goodly'! lol

dgirl, you were so, so fortunate not to be bitten!! Water moccasins are aggressive snakes....bad dudes!! (I'm with you - UGH - snakes!! Ugh ugh ugh!!).......Spiders, too!! Ugh ugh ugh!!!

pnp - Thank you! It can take months that I know of...possibly years to recover fully. But I am hopeful, as it seems that these herbal treatments are starting to have a noticeable, positive effect.:)

Years?!o_O:eek: Had no idea. I am glad to hear the treatment you are using is beginning to help.:)

My snake story is not as scary as those you all have shared. I was five years old when my parents borrowed a Shetland pony named Dee Dee. She was not for a beginner rider and I had trouble with her. She was given back to her owners and another Shetland pony was bought -- Billy Whiskers. He was older and was a champion show pony but had been outgrown and needed a new rider. He had a ton of personality but was a good mount. One day when I was riding (still five years old), he saw a snake but I did not. I was not prepared for his sudden stop and leap to the side so over his head I went. I broke my arm. I do remember lying on the ground waiting for the ambulance and the snake was disposed of (I don't remember what kind it was) but I cried all the way to the hospital because I was worried my parents would blame Billy Whiskers for the accident and get rid of him. It was very scary for a young child.

My parents kept BW and I had him until I was 16 years old. By then he was an old fellow and had to be put to sleep from a burst blood vessel in his lungs. One of the saddest days of my life but he gave me such wonderful memories I still cherish.

8)Pnp, Your story and feelings for Billy Whiskers touch my heart deeply. I'm so glad you had him as your friend for so many wonderful years. Nothing will ever compare to all those lovely memories!:inlove:
Also very glad you didn't fall on that snake or get bitten either!! Five years old is really young to go through something like that. We have such tender and strong emotions when we're so young....and even sometimes when we're older, too.

pnp, thank you for sharing about Billy Whiskers, I know how hard it is to make that particular decision, even when you're doing it to save someone you love from hurting. I've nursed the best 2 dogs I've ever known thru cancer, father and son, one my husband's dog and the other mine, and the decision of when it was time to put them to sleep was one of the most heart wrenching, devastating choices to have to make. Some animals become more than pets, and your Billy sounds like one of them.♥

I've got a funny story about one of our hounds (the father dog mentioned above). Ben was a redbone/Plott hound, we'd gotten him from a friend who needed to find a home for him. He'd been abused as a puppy (not by the friend), and was not trusting of people, and had never seen the inside of a house until we took him (he was about 4). At first he was terrified, but it didn't take him long to adjust to sleeping next to a nice warm heater on a soft rugxD, and he became the most loving, personable dog I've ever had. But he was always unsure about how to play; when he let himself go and actually played, it was always hysterical. Anyway, we have a large kennel in our back yard, and it had a big dog house with a flat top that Ben loved to jump up and sun himself on. So I was out cleaning the kennel one day, and I had a bunch of plastic shopping bags that you get from the grocery store to scoop the refuse into. At the time we had 5 dogs, and since it was daytime, they were out in the kennel, and whenever I finished cleaning I would always play with them. So I'm almost done, and the younger dogs are getting excited because it's almost play time and they know it, and Ben, for some unknown mysterious reason, decides to leave his roof and come get in on the fun. By now the other dogs are jumping around and acting goofy, and Ben comes over and starts trying to take the empty bag I have in my hand. I figured he thought I had food in it or something, so I opened it up and showed it to him and told him there was nothing in it. Ben sticks his head in and grabs the bag from the bottom and takes off, so he's running around the kennel with a plastic bag stuck over his head wagging his tail and having a big ol' time, and I'm laughing, because he's being so silly. About that time I can see what's coming, because I can tell he's headed for the dog house and he plans to jump up on top and be King of the Mountain, only with the bag on his head he misjudged the distance, and I'm trying to call him off, but I'm still laughing, and he runs right into the side of the dog house. I'm loving all over him, letting him know he's okay, telling him it's alright, but I can't stop laughing, and he just looked at me like how could I possibly laugh when his pride was so severely damaged. It was at least a week before he'd talk to me again, and he (eventually) forgave me for laughing at him, but he never did forget.xD

Woke up this afternoon (starting back on night shifts this week, body clock doesn't want to change :p), went in to bathroom, found honking big spider in bathtubo_O. Pretended didn't see it, left for hubby to take care of :oops:xD.

I was about twelve I think, when we were visiting my old grandpa,:) and we were having icecream, after dinner. Nice, warm summer evening, everybody relaxed,:) and I take a spoonfull of icecream, and just gently suckle on it... to not freeze my brain .... enjoying it immensely...:inlove: then I seem to be suckling on some kind of cherry or sumtin'...xept...it's white icecream, like very very vanilla.... so i put the thing I'm suckling on out of my mouth onto my spoon, as I had now suckled it clean enough to see what it was.... I was a little curious .... :D

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!:wuerg:

    WASP!!!!!! o_O

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! :wuerg: Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! ah! PT PT PT PT PT PT!!!!!! :wuerg:

Farmingfreebird .... LOL LOL....... !!! How high did you jump and how far did you run? My hubby also had a close encounter with a wasp when moving sheep along a track near the house on a hot summers day. All he was wearing was a pair of shorts and his boots. I glanced out the window to see him doing some sort of 'war dance' whilst yanking frantically at his shorts which eventually ended up around his ankles .... fortunately not near a public place .....Turns out he had suddenly realised there was a wasp in there.... He was also fortunate not to be stung ... But I have never forgotten it !!xD and I suspect, neither has he ....:wuerg:

pnp - Thanks for sharing your Billy Whiskers story! How frightening to possibly think your parents might give him away b/c of your accident. I'm so glad they realized that's what it was and that you got to keep him. This all emphasizes the importance of your screen names.
Freebird - Maybe that could be a new flavor??? Vanilla wasp surprize?:p

I've always thought animals of all kinds...but especially pets, are one of God's best creations!!!

spots - LOL...totally hilarious story of Ben!! What a sweetie you were to adopt him! Adopted grown & abused animals seem to be the most appreciative and loving pets of all! They realize how good they have it now....when a loving & nurturing person/family loves them!

We also had a Ben, (actually was my Dad's dog) a big black lab...who was always excited to see everyone(translate jumped on you..LOL). When my son, Ryan, would go visit my parents...he was only about 2 or 3 years old....he would run right to Ben! Of course my Mom would immediately start saying "No No Ben" trying to avoid him jumping & knocking Ryan down. On a another visit to my parents....Ryan was 4 or 5...and Ben was out on the ranch with my Dad....we get out the car....saying hello to Mom...and Ryan is running all over the place calling..........."No No Ben" "No No Ben....where are you?" LOL.xDxDxD........he actually thought that was his name...No No Ben!!!:p:wuerg:xD
