    ALERT!
    8) 7.4 - 7.8 EARTHQUAKE in New Zealand!!! Please offer prayers for davidb1yth007, elemeef, and all our NZ friends!!

I received an igm from David early today, but nothing since. There have been at least 50 more aftershocks, and several more major quakes - at least 5 more of magnitude 5.0 or more. The east coast of the South Island, where David lives, is being evacuated because of tsunami warnings. Wellington, on the southern tip of the North Island, has also been hit.

If anyone has any news, please post it!! Thank you!!

    8) There has been a 7.4 - 7.8 earthquake in New Zealand today, with over 50 aftershocks, at least 5 of which were over 5.0 magnitude! Tsunami warnings have been made, and evacuations have been ordered for the east coast, where davidb1yth007 lives. I have not heard from him since the big one hit today.

Please go to 'Gabfest - weather!!!!' for information, and post any additional information you have in that thread.

Asking for prayers for davidb1yth007, elemeef, and our other New Zealand friends. Thank you!!

Edit: The quake has been officially upgraded to 7.8. At least two people have been reported dead.

Update: Just got a call from David - he is o.k.!!:) Has anyone heard from elemeef??

    Hi lily,
Thank you so much for thinking of us.
So glad to hear that david is fine especially since he is right in the thick of it down there. We have been extremely lucky with light aftershocks here in the North Island. Our tsunami warning has been cleared but where the aftershocks have been close and strong tsunami warnings are still in place. There certainly are a lot of scared people.

I have been trying to locate family members around different NZ locations but no luck so far. It is now just 24 hours after the first quake and I am a bit worried. Ok so we are having a shake now. I have dishes falling.

Thanks again lily and all those that have friends or loved ones in NZ.... I hope you hear from them soon and I pray that they are save.
Bye for now. Got to cuddle the crying cat. Poor thing.

Glad David is safe and that the causalities are minimum. How is elemeef and other NZ friends ? Has anyone any idea. Something in my mind says they are safe too.

    Hi MARLYMAR, Meesleepbeest,

My bookmarks got deleted accidentally. So I have to search for them once again. They are the official / Government websites announced by USA and Haiti Government. There is also an mobile application which helps you to contact or make application with regard to Hurricane Matthew. If you want I can send them to you as you wish. ;):) Shall I ?

Thankyou, farmLily for your concern over our wee country down under. it was a scary earthquake that rolled on and on for about 135 seconds here in Christchurch... that is a loooooong time to be rolling.... but the epicentre was north of us near a town of 2000 people called Kaikoura ( a Maori name for Crayfish) which is stuck between a mountain range and the sea and now, those mountains have fallen on the road/rail links north and south of the town in about a dozen places.... a huge clean up will have to be undertaken...
It is a sad time for the families of the two people who died as a result of this earthquake.
Kaikoura has developed a reputation for being one of the world's best places for whale watching all year round, as compared to the likes of Hawaii, where there is a specific 'season' to see whales. And they come in close to the shore, allowing beautiful photos with the mountains in the background...

    Glad you're okay!

I read an article in the news today about those 3 stranded cows! I hope they can be rescued!

8)Thank you for posting elemeef, and David, and letting us know how things are with you! :inlove: Thanks for the photos, too, David!
Elemeef, I read that lots of communication has been downed....maybe that is why it is hard to reach your family and friends?
Please keep us updated, if you have the time!:)

    Hi Guys.
Tuesday morning here. Found all my family. A cousin in Wellington lives on the 3rd floor of an apartment building which got evacuated. Of course they have to use the stairs so they don't get trapped in the lifts. She fell down the stairs and broke her leg.

Saw those cows on the tv last night. So amazing. The devastation of the hills, roads and rail lines never ceases to amaze me. Nature so beautiful and peaceful one moment, so violent the next.

Wherever you are in the world please be happy and kind, but most of all be safe.

    Have a good day.

You guys are awesome. You rally together to support those that need some love in time of disaster. It is really great!

Yesterday it was sunny and hot, not a single sign of a breeze, and so so quiet. Last night cloudy ( didn't see the moon) very cold, and wind gusts. The sound of the wind, the only noise. This morning is cloudy, a chilly wind is blowing, no noise. I don't like it, not when it is this quiet. Where are the birds, why aren't the dogs barking?
