in the game strategy discussion forum, I said that since I wasn't doing this event, that i'd check the SOS thread & help those who are attempting to complete the MM event and need some help {to the extent that my own neighbors were not neglected}.

one of my neighbors came up with what I think is a really thoughtful, selfless idea ....

which is that I could send her gift to someone else. her "outside the box" thinking led ME to IGM my other neighbors that instead of sending me a Toolbox, that I would like to forego my place in the rotation so they could send help to those Farmers in the SOS thread.

how cool would it be if any # of our members of the community did likewise?

Do most people really have such formal rotas that they need permission from their neighbours to not send them gifts? I would hate that so much. I have a completly informal arrangement where some neighbours I gift a lot, some occasionally and most not at all. I don't get as many gifts as I could but I don't have to worry that someone's marked my card for forgetting to give any gifts out that day, or just being too busy.
I do also help people in the SOS thread, though there's a couple of neighbours who often get priority.

i know when i first started to play i always had ran out of gifts to send. so maybe this is where rotation comes in?? or the simple fact that some likes to gift each and every neighbor??? I don't know how some does theirs. but how i do mine is if i get a gift... i do the best i can to send it back right away..... as i learned my lesson before from waiting and i forget.... im not like that... i help when being helped.... its only right in my book...

me it doesn't bother me to much to not get a gift... but what does bother me is neighbors never speaking to you about it... although it is a 2 way street.... i can say for myself i am just as much to blame when not sending a message... but when i do and not get a response... then its not my fault at all...

i do for the most part have least 5 people who do in fact send me gifts since i been back... although i don't get everyday. i have had gifts not being sent out.... i also opened the rune for 2 more... so now at times i MAY have up to 5 gifts to help with gifts...
So to all my neighbors who been gifting me.... please do help others if you wish.... I don't and wont never have a problem with this at all... Just be on the look out for me popping in the SOS thread.....lol

I am gonna do my very best to help others in the SOS thread... I been helped many times... and still get help.... i have gifts being wasted that someone could've got..... NOT gonna happen no more if i can help it ( MAINLY WHEN ONE NEEDS DROPS).... I am gonna do my best before it resets my time... i'm making a trip to the SOS thread and see who i can help...

I also don't think its permission that ones asks for? I think it is out of respect for one who you been gifting on a daily basis and would like to make sure its ok.... ex... Mary ask me if its ok to send to someone else.... no matter my answer... she may do it anyway..... its just out of respect she has for me.... she wants me to know she hasn't forgotten me, she is helping others. Least I would do the same.... some see it as permission i guess or whatever..(im sure someone will say another point of view on this)...or some will also see it as a sign of respect... and that to me... means and says alot about our neighbors....

Any how...waiting for other points of view on this... and im hittin the bed early ... i am waiting on my crops so i came to forum to check out new news... I sure hope i am helping with all this i typed.. my fingers hurt now....lol nah but i said enough... only one pot of coffee today me is lead out.....

well, you want your neighbours to do well in the game and especially in an event, so you send that event drop. Some people in rotation, some from what they receive and some have some other system. Sometimes you are unsure if your friends & neighbours are participating, other times you know. Sometimes they need the gift-drop, sometimes they don't. Think this thread is an excellent way to tell if people need drops or not.

I have a great set of neighbors, have had most of them for years. we all gift daily so know we can count on these drops during events. To offset this I maintain another farm which has no neighbors to help those in need.

I believe it is very important when someone doesn't participate in an event and gets drops as gifts from neighbours and friends to let them know that he doesn't need these gifts. When I don't take part to event I try to post it here in the forum so players won't send to me drops but to those who need them.
During an event that don't participate I don't want to receive gifts, I want to know that other players get the drops.
