One-Two, I was thinking about what you said when I was pulling this stunt I'll tell you about.

    • Pheromones hit 1,700 ccs as the low......... (thought about you and my eyes got big!) Not normal but all because of you:
    • I marched myself straight to the store and bought 600 pheromones for 1,000 each. Absolutely no limit to how many I could buy. hahahahahaha (and of course I had all the apple ccs thanks to the angels)
    • Listed them for over 1,300 and change (No waiting in line or for folks to grow and all that nonsense. BP delivers free of charge too!)
Risky yes, but I have farmer guardian angels and you encouraging such things.

The following will take me longer to type than the trip to the store and the listing.

    • say 1,300 times 600 pheromones sold and that is 780,000 ccs
    • Now I need to take 10% away and that is (.10 times 780,000) 78,000
    • And I need to take away the cost of the BP furnished pheromones 600 times 1,000 is 600,000 ccs
    • So my total cost and expense of sale is (600,000 plus 78,000) ..... 678,000
    • That stunt leaves the farm with (780,000 minus 678,000) .... 102,000 free and clear
May as well fool around a little more. So the return on the investment (not even needed and not done before)
    • profit divided by all costs .... so 102,000 divided by 678,000 is .15044 or 15.04%
The following is part of the lettuce foolishness.
    • The farm will only get 90% of any price it lists for. I was not worried about the sale then, but if I wanted to know what I needed to sell something for that cost me something ...... and make nothing ..... then I can take the cost and divide it by .90 or 90%.
    • So 1,000 (pheromone cost) divided by .90 is 1,111.11
    • So before I make anything at all I must clear 1,111.11 . If I sell for anything more than 1,111.11 then I'm in the money.
    • So I sold for say 1,300 and I was in the money!

Corn! All that growing and not knowing the lettuce tactics have farmers missing out on a lot of ccs. So while there is mispricing, I just buy their corn and price it right .... (And yes, I make errors .... and want to throw the laptop through the TV .... hahaha)

Maybe you remember I was begging for a CAC loan a pretty good while back. Well, I was buying corn between 19 and 33. I stopped buying then. But I had 1.5 million corn. (Mooboy calls it hoarding .... haha .... I call it being broke because I would have exactly -0- ccs that I could see.)

I sold some cuckoos for over 1,200 too. And that is another problem to deal with because this farm has about 1.2 million cuckoos left. And I have one cuckoo pen and I produced exactly one and milled my own feed and there is profit to be had in it. The cuckoo has a chain just as the peacock chain and anaconda chain explained in those two threads. And you can bet I have a strategy ready to work on getting rid of thos cuckoos.

And careful if you try that stunt with the pheromones in the store. I figured it this way, if farmers don't buy their 100 seed allotment each day or come to the forum, I know good and well they aren't going to the store to be looking for pheromones.

(Beaver feed went to 3,300 on this market during the event. My strategy was simple .... sell it to um!)

Now I can buy 200 more apple trees and harvest them once a month. hmmmmmmmm One-Two, you inspire me!

    Much obliged :pxD:)

Pheromones in my market did not go over 1100 CCs. So I couldn't do the marketing as you did. But few weeks back I bought 500 pheromones for 500 and odd CCs. So just when pheromones reached 1000 in my market, I promptly put them to sale on the first page around 900 and something and it promptly got sold.

Similarly once I bought cuckoos for 500 and odd CCs & when their price rose to 1000 and above, as usual I promptly sold them. But all these are risk, I know. So I had an alternate plan. If they prices don't rise then convert them to products and sell them or my animal trophy is 1 % less. So may be I would have used it.

    Corn is still profitable.

Still learning a lot of marketing from you & others. Moreover it was from your idea that I learnt the large scale buying & placing of trees, animal pens and harvesting them at a stretch is profitable in more than one way.

Its all in the game. We are not going to loose anything by being broke. There is no debtor's prison in farmerama. So no harm in risking. ;)

Sharing your first hand experience is of great help to people like me.:)

This is for farmer_broke & others
    1. Do you think the prices of animals for which neon pens are introduced will rise and cross over 1000 CCs ?
    2. What are best options to spend the CCs ? I thought of buying breeding animals to built pink workshops. But the process is very slow. It should be a sort of investment in the farm and make us play comfortably. For instance like orange pens (Thanks to Mir. It was Mir who introduced to me the concept of orange pen - paying for 1 & getting 2 in reward. I was very raw player then.) But now I have orange pens and would wish to go to the next level.

What fun! Wish I could have read this when it was going on, corn fights ... sorry competitions ... and Monsieur Broke larking about! :D

I have finished the event on both main farms and just need another 10 Tree Branches on the latest farm. Thoroughly enjoyed not having to grow lots of "junks" and, being a tree person, the drops coming in from all directions. This farm has nearly 900 excess Tree Branches and will probably go over the 1000 level tomorrow! o_O

Good luck all those still going for it! ;)

Thank you for sharing your market strategies. I am nowhere near your level of expertise in playing the markets, but here are a few of my observations. Pheromones never got above 800cc in my market, but I was able to make quite a few cc's by selling corn and potatoes. ;)

One thing I noticed in my market, market 6, there were some great bargains on fruit, crops, crafts and animals while the price of corn and potatoes was, and still is, sky high. I assume people were selling items cheap to get enough money to buy corn and potatoes. I must admit I'm a little bewildered by people paying so much for corn and potatoes when they could easily grow the required amount themselves, since the event has lasted so long. I can only surmise that they are lower level players who don't have all their land opened yet and, or don't have Bahama opened yet. :sleepy:

Since I bought so much I can't say exactly how much I made in profit, but I went from just under 5 million cc's to over 8 million cc's and I kept most of the items I bought, since I'm still building up my stock and upgrading my trophies. I did sell some PPP, which I have been buying for under 3,000cc, for 10,000cc. :D:music:

I have noticed that it's very easy to get caught paying way more than what things are worth if you don't watch the entire market. I got caught a few weeks ago paying more for Kiwi feed than the Kiwi themselves cost. I didn't notice it until I saw a post by someone, I think it was Mir, that brought it to my attention. It hadn't occurred to me to check the price of the animals before buying their feed. Thanks to that post, I promptly sold all my Kiwi feed and just bought Kiwi birds with the money I regained. :wuerg:xD

I keep hearing references to the great lettuce strategy for making money, but I can't find it anywhere. Could someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction? :p
This forum has been very educational and entertaining ;) for me. I'd like to thank everyone for sharing their knowledge, wisdom and wit.:inlove:

    Dear farmer_broke
My cuckoos are on page 18 (in order of lowest price first) with 45 mins left in the BBoom...Do you think they will sell?
    What would you do ?

    They should not sell.
Two exceptions: (1) someone knows you and (2) if the quantities of those on the 17 pages before yours are unreasonable -- ask yourself who are you trying to sell to and this may help.

What I would do? My thoughts: BB and the new breeding platform is definitely leading to massive breeding. Many do not breed except during BB. Some do. Barns are getting full of several animals up to and including level 3 and several have gone to level 4. Page 18 ... time will be out. There is a constant demand for cuckoos even though barns are filling with the breeding animals needed for the quests. Exchange value analysis indicates there is small price movement upwards. Free cuckoos are still in barns yet many have run out now. There is no neon cuckoo pen. Developers have insured constant demand. page 18! Cuckoos will fall in price after BB. Page 18 today. Many will ignore the animal market soon and not list. Still page 18.

The 10% market listing fee has already been paid. Page 18! BB time running out! Costs nothing more to leave them so I would leave them and by chance, although it seems slim, they may indeed sell.

If I needed ccs I would just dump them for whatever I could get, take my loss and move on.

BB will be back. If I can hold, I would simply hold.

You are not alone: I have a listing of cuckoos that is now on page 10. The price is very high as I was trying to take advantage of another bubble in the market. It won't sell I pretty sure. I'll leave in on the market for 3 - 4 more days and simple delete the offer. Even breeders who buy regularly from me will not pay what I listed for. With over 1.2 million cuckoos I will hold cuckoos longer.

No worry though. The profit on breeding the base cuckoo is the best even though you may get no skip. A skip only makes it better.

Use of the cuckoo for the animal trophy: Not such an efficient plan. Depending on your market, the most efficient animal to submit for the animal trophy now is panda or cats. Panda prices will drop after BB.

Cats are good because of the price to exchange ratio as with Panda. BUT and you must make your decision of course: Although there is a cloud row giving cats, cats are being gathered as a breeding animal with strong potential. This may require a significant amount of holding though. I'm at just over 25,000 and not stopping. I'm only going to pay an amount that I feel comfortable with in order to dump all the cats quickly to those working on the animal trophy.

The current event: Developers knew exactly how much pf had been given away and they have taken it back and made sales of pf. This event increased breeding animals in barns as never before. The next challenge for them in order to keep their RL income stream established from PF sales is to take away the produced breeding animals from the game. Several ways to accomplish this but if they don't then they are shooting themslves in the foot.

    @spotsbox and @bearbabe

Stop doing the things you do will ya! Thank you but will you stop! Just keep on ..... You'll find both your farms gift boxes full of Wilsons during an event when you need drops most. You'll have a whole team and you can play with Illy's team of Wilsons.

    But just luv spots!

    8) Verrrry interesting, farmer_broke!! Could that be a factor in BP wanting to introduce more animal-eaters into the game??

With the cost of animals in the market now, I cannot foresee wanting to feed animals to animals...having to add the cost of another animal - and it's feed - to the cost of the feed price.

    @farmlily3
Use of "more animal-eaters" into the game through feed has always been a choice for developers. Certainly that could be a factor.

I have been trying to think of useful input to supply teddy.bear regarding the animals in feed issue. I see all sorts of issues and always try and return to the original question asked. When the word "balance" was used with no definition or clarifying statement as to what was being attempted to balance with what, there was plenty room for misinterpretation.

This game is like a chicken to the BP enterprise. The game is either going to meet their objects or they are going to dump it just as we would a chicken. Patrons should be kept content along the way and seeking patron input is decent. Just as I am playing with chickens and fooling with my revenue source in the game, BP is fooling with their revenue source in the game although the manner is slightly different.

There is a big picture surrounding this game and that picture is made up of specifics and these specifics interact in order to generate the big picture. Feed is a part of this picture but only a part and there are interactions. All this interacting is nice but from an implementation and execution perspective, what I would really be determined to happen is to have patron bank accounts interact with the BP bank account. This must be accomplished. Make a bad move and the game can get out of hand for developers which can still be dealt with. But when it gets out of control then there is a problem and that problem is one BP nor any other organization seeks.

I would not think BP would consider NOW having a breeding animal as a component of feed. Sure we can come up with a way and their is risk. BP has large amounts of data easily available as any online game should. What do they want to balance?
    • One feed against another feed?
    • A particular feed against an animal price?
    • Feed against crops?
    • ....................... This can go on and on.
With the events and crops and animals and crafts, I am certain there is more than a hit or miss approach. I don't know what they are trying to balance, developers have gotten better, and balancing in one area can throw another area out of balance as well as the RL income stream.

While the survey posed is quite simple to answer, the decision made will have an effect to be dealt with.

    ----edit----
    @davidb1yth007

The cuckoos I had listed that were on page 10 when I answered moved up to page 6 I noticed. Came back 2 hours later and on page 7. Now they have sold.

Just when I thought I was getting the hang of the market along comes another lesson from the masters. I thought I had it mde when I moved mostly from growing and selling chicks to buying cheap chicks and selling at a profit. Wow so much new to absorb and figure out now. :wuerg:o_O

Same thing can be said for GBs. What they give easily, they take away very easily.
There is a talk about introduction of storage feature/warehouse. If this item is to be placed on fields (I have have no idea if they will be- but there is a likelihood of it) then there is a necessity for coloured pens/workshops. Because in each storage features you might be able to stack only one kind of item and upto a limit. We will be tempted of course to make best use of it. This is all my humble opinion. May be this can go wrong too.

Sharing our knowledge with others is beneficial for us too. And we should thank you for straining yourself to read such a long post we put in. Several times I want to cut short my post. But it keeps on growing.

I too made several millions from corn.

And don't think high of me. I am just like any of you. Trying out the market for several months made me somewhat experienced. There is nothing like "Trial and Error Method". I find from your post that you are doing the same. And you are much experienced like me. Congratulation on making 10,000/- on ppp. That's really great.

I think one of the lettuce strategy is to buy 100 daily from the shop. I too have not gone through it.
Another of my strategy is to grow them in between crops or events - when you play 1x1 fields & CAC is active & also if you have the scarecrow row, grow them when it is active. It will give you 5 per 1x1 field. Same goes for carrots & corns too.
