Tragedy in Athens

At least 60 people have died in wildfires in the Attica region around Athens more than 100 have been injured in the most devastating wildfires Greece has suffered in more than a decade.

where the fires were yesterday at Κινέτα-Kineta and Ραφήνα-Rafina
Rafina region is popular with local tourists, especially pensioners and children attending holiday camps, so young children had to leave the camps, tourists were evacuated from the beaches with boats and locals had to leave their homes... but many people were trapped...

 

I saw the terrible fires in Greece this morning on our world news, my thoughts and prayers for your country and the brave responders fighting the fires!

The news we keep getting are not good... the number of victims has risen to 76 and there are still a lot of people missing and many in the hospital. Many have lost their homes but people have shown great generosity to help them.

 

Such a tragic situation! Been sending prayers since I saw this on the news. Blessings to your people Arielh.

Sorry, I don't know what's wildfire? But 76 people died ..........that's so many.May God bless their souls and give strength to those who are still trapped.

Arielh, I thought of you this morning when I heard about Greece on the radio. Such tragedy all those who have died a horridest death. My thoughts and prayers goes out to them and the family members left behind.
Sadly the US is experiencing multiple wildfires also.

Hopy a wildfire is a large, destructive fire that spreads quickly over land.

FrootloopGrove I am sad to hear there are also wildfires in the US. Mid summer is the most dangerous period for fires.

Arielh, I saw it in the news. Its really heartbreaking. To loose people before our eyes is very sad. How is the situation now. I heard there were more deaths. Has the fire been put out.

 

The fire has been put out, more and more deaths are announced everyday because many of the injured who were in the hospital many didn't make it and they keep finding the missing persons... Now there is a different problem. Today because of storms the roads of Athens have flooded, many problems with the traffic now.
This year we had many problems in Athens because of rains but mostly one region, in which houses were completely flooded and the whole region experienced many problems...

 

Things like this leave me breathless. I truly cannot fathom what you are experiencing. One of my favourite animal charities is in Greece and it is through them that I am aware of the situation. Latley I spend my evenings in tears as I watch & see what is happening in Greece and around the worldI send you a cyber hug & kisses.
