You do not grow enough kelp without space to grow it either.
I have not done any calculations, but I had four 2x2 plots and one 1x2 plot for coral. I also had two 1x2 and 1x1 for kelp. Now I have just coral everywhere and I'll open next area before I go to sleep. I will grow coral during night, if I do not have enough seeds to fill whole area, I will add kelp as well.

 

ok I did the rough math. Like Nordy states we need roughly 1680 kelp to upgrade the 8 tentacles 3 times each (8x3x70)
Then you want to farm enough kelp to produce the quill 14 times per day otherwise you will not be able to get the cloud row on time.
The 8 tentacles need to be harvested 7 times per day and they take 4 hours to recharge so my plan is to apply 2 quills between each recharge making it 2 hours x 7 times + sleep per day.
14 x 35 kelp needed = 490 x 5 days = 2450 kelp

So the minimum we need and this is just a rough calculation is 1680 + 2450 = 4130 kelp and each full harvest yields 185 kelp so we need to harvest 23 times x 4 hours = 92 hours

This is +- and just a rough estimate.

The red corals will take 7 unlockings to unlock the 7 locked tentacles. so 7 x 4 = 28 hours.

120 hours absolute minimum to get the cloud row having to harvest 5 times kelp per day to get enough kelp and no way to catch up if you fall behind on this schedule.

Updated math:

harvest tentacles 2x in 8 hours. Use 8 quills per day to harvest 4x more tentacles in another 8 hours. Then one more overnight.

This gives us 7 x 5 days = 35 x 8 points = 280 points. We should also be able to get up to 35 points while unlocking all tentacles on first day and we need 290 in total to complete the event.

so 8 quills x 35 kelp = 280 x 5 days = 1400 kelp
Plus the 1680 to upgrade all tentactles

So 3080 kelp in total on a 185 field = 17 harvests over 5 days = 3.3 harvests needed per day.

So that works out as 3 harvests in a 12 hour period and one overnight.

Not as bad as I first thought.

This event is REALLY not aimed at CHILDREN at all when it's "really friendly" or Valentine's...

However, I have studied for a Master's degree in Statistics at the University, it took 8 years, it took time because I thought it was a university-style party even when I was young.

HOWEVER, I'm not EVEN SURE about the calculations and other things for this task, no matter how others help.

I WILL CHANGE my mindset regarding this event:

IF I DON'T FINISH IT, up to / until 2 Piccolo, then there's nothing I can do.

(at least life is colorfull...)

 

Yes, that is my plan. Open all land first and then move on to upgrades and then finally speed up with quills only if necessary.

I can harvest 4 times a day, one of which is the first time from overnight. My farm day is approximately 12 hours. I cannot stay up late nor get up in the middle of the night. Events that require such oversight will not be completed by me.

I'm not planning on using the quills at all. Reducing the time to harvest tentacles from 4 hours to 3 hours will not allow me to get in another harvest before bedtime. With a net yield of 185 crops from a fully opened field, it would take 2 rounds of kelp to have enough crops to reduce all 8 tentacles. With water and manure, kelp takes 4 hours 20 minutes so it would mean 8 hours and 40 minutes of growing crops to save just 1 hour. The quills may be useful if you miss a harvest due to real life and need to make up that harvest.

Sorry to burst your bubble with... good news! You forgot to take into account that upgraded tentacles give more points when harvested, so that whill lower the amount of harvests needed to get the cloud row or end the event!

Speeking of tentacle upgrades, players should upgrade each tentacle to level 2 right from the go instead of raising them all to level 1 first. Why? Because a level 1 upgraded tentacle also gives out 1 point!

Base tentacle = 1 point per harvest
level 1 tentacle = 1 point per harvest
level 2 tentacle = 2 points per harvest
level 3 tentacle = 3 points per harvest

Reducing by 1h would not but after a few days if you have enough fancy quills, you could reduce the harvest time to 2 hours twice and get 1 more harvest in the day. This should be done once all tentacles are upgraded to level 3. That would me 24 more points (roughly about 10% of the points needed to get the cloud row).

EDIT:

I should be able to open the last sections by this afternoon. Please do not forget that the last land section is opened with roses, not red corals!

My personal strategy will be to raise the tentacles' levels to 2 with each full 185 kelp harvest and upgrade one tentacle to level 3 when there's enough kelp to do so.

Spreading the upgrades to all tentacle is not a good strategy because level tentacles are worth the same as the basic tentacle. A full field of kelps gives out 185 kelps but we need 70 kelps to upgrade 1 level.

 

Thanks for explaining your understanding of the quills. Perhaps I am confused. With reducing the harvest time 1 hour per harvest, making 3 hours, I would need to reduce all 8 tentacles for 4 harvests in order to gain one additional harvest. So that would be 32 quills, and yes, perhaps that could be done at the end to gain 24 points.

I was only thinking in terms of once a day rather than saving them all up to use at the end.

So my plan remains the same...open all land areas first, fully upgrade all tentacles to level 3, and then see what is needed in terms of quills.

 

It's still unclear to me if we can use the fancy quills more than once per tentacle! Or even if it's possible to use 4 fancy quills and have an instant tentacle harvest possible.... Will try it for sure, but I cannot guarantee it...

 

SL's farm used quills yesterday. I think they can be applied once per duration. The tentacles reset after you harvest, so you need to make more quills to shorten the time again - honestly, I think we're better off upgrading the tentacles than shortening the time - at least right now.

I got up TWICE in the night and harvested. That got this farm the full fields open so have now switched to kelp. SL's farm bought a basked, so that farm had the whole field open yesterday.

Use your kelp to UPGRADE those tentacles - SL's farm has received the + givers as prizes from the tentacles! So extra givers can be obtained and they are 1x1s!

 

I just opened the entire area but realized I made a small mistake. I now have 140 corals left and realized I only have 50 algae left. Remember to check the numbers after each harvest. I was busy all day and just had to harvest and leave and I'm so indecisive right now. I can't decide whether I should develop the tentacles first or speed them up.

 

Upgrading tentacles means more points per harvest for the rest of the event. I don't think speeding tentacles up will make the same amount of points than upgrading one.

 

So I have been harvesting tentacles every four hours or so. I will have enough coral to open last areas. I have sixteen games played so far.

 

That is my plan also. open lands first, then up-grade all tentacles to level 3 and then see what I will do "IF" anything with Fancy Quills! Good luck to all!

 

this is my last plan too ı have only two lands left to open. after that up- grade and last speeds up

 

I keep changing my strategy too. If I had used 2x2s instead of 1x1s, I think I would have all lands open by now, instead I will do it at the next harvest - though I am not entirely sure, my maths has really messed me up with this event.
That still leaves me four days to grow Kelp so I am not overly concerned ... should I be?

I have decided that the baby farms can play as it is so tedious waiting for the crops to grow at the normal rate. They started late but have learned from all my errors on this farm so they are probably evenly matched!

 

In previous events in this area, I preferred to use 1x1 and 2x1 areas, this time I preferred 2x2 areas. I was pleased with my choice. I opened areas faster. I must say that I actually encountered a lot of red coral because I wasn't careful. This is my experience, friend Illy.

 

It's starting to look more promising.

Three of the tentacles have now been upgraded and points will start to accumulate faster in the future.

At the end, if there's time left and all the limbs are upgraded, we can still try to shorten the time.

My initial hopelessness is gone.

 

I have just opened the last 2 landsand only have 38 extra red corals. First harvest was using a mix of 2x2,1x2 and
a couple of 1x1's Then it has been only 1x1's. I would split the lands opened between kelp but mostly Red corals as my goal was to get lands open. So 1st goal now completed. I will now focus on getting Kelp grown in groups of 560 Kelp and 64 heartstones to then collect 8 of the Secret Messages and then I will upgrade all 8 tentacles and then grow 560 more kelp and get 64 more drops to repeat process till I up-graded tentacles 3 times

 

Do not wait before upgrading your tentacles, this will not help. Raising all tentacle to level 1 will not give you more points than the basic tentacles (still 1 point per harvest). With the first full kelp harvest you can craft 2 Secret Messages, use them on 1 tentacle. On your second full kelp hrvest you can craft 3 Secret Messages, you then to upgrade a second tentacle to level 3. The third full kelp harvest will give 2 Secret Messages, up grade 1 tentacle to level 2 and repeat until you're done with upgrades. This way you are sure to get enough points for the cloud row and will also improve the quality of random prizes you're getting from harvesting tentacles.

 

I am still quite confused by this event.

Quills seem to be pretty useless. I made 4 of them but will not make any more. They saved me 1 hour on half the tentacles. Hardly a game changer

So upgrading gives more points? Ok that gives me hope I can complete this just upgrading the tentacles then.

LEts see 3 points per tentacle which I harvest roughly 4 times per day would give 3 x 8 x 4 = 96 points per day.

Ok that is doable to get the 300 points needed. I'll focus on that.

 

I calculated that if you upgrade 3 tentacles to their maximum values, then 8 tentacles will produce 3+3+3+1+1+1+1+1=15 points/game.

If you upgrade all 8 pieces ONCE, you won't get any quantitative bonus.

So I'll upgrade the sequel ONE at a time, always all 3 levels.

This way I think you can get the FULL, or 100%, goal in the shortest time.

Am I right, does anyone else agree!?
