I think all of us appreciate the time and effort the team puts into designing new pen ideas. One of the best things about Farmerama is the varied graphics. Some people put out specific pens as much because they like the looks... and, well, avoid a few for the same reason.

Neon pens is altering this a lot. We ALL definitely enjoy getting 4 animals! No doubt about that. And, the graphics on the new pens are up to your usual standard. The problem (and I say this hesitantly because I know how much effort you put into new designs) is that instead of fields full of varied colors and designs, we now are going more and more to fields of just neon colors. Not putting these pens out is a big disadvantage, but putting them out is both a contrast to the visual attractiveness of other pens. (the regular pens are all different, but even the pink pens don't stick out quite as much as the neon pens) and well, makes our farms more of "the same", instead of different.

At the same time, using neon pens means we have to leave behind some of the wonderful designs you worked so hard to develop.

What about offering a visual-only "cover" or "skin" that people could place over pens and perhaps trees as well (the golden leaf tree is one a lot of people seem to dislike.. while others simply love it). What pens folks want covered will differ. You could offer a version of the lower level pens, just altered very slightly, maybe with a colored border to indicate what the pen underneath really is (orange for orange, etc.). Or, you could offer a few "universal" covers. I know I, for one, would be happy with just a plain square to cover my anaconda pens, though I am not sure I would use that for other pens. (maybe the hamster?)

Anyway, this would not replace any mechanic, it would just be a visual option. You could even offer them as special prizes or for purchase, something new and different.
