What are "Buffs"

I'm still learning all the things that have changed sense I came back to farmerama. Could someone tell me what buffs are?? how to get them? and how to use them?
I found a button on the stalk to plant buff rows, I pushed it but nothing happened so I must not qualify.

Buffs are the craft items, pets and Cloud Rows that assist your farm.

so a buff could be a pumpkin cake or a guard dog or a cloud row. OK. So what is the button on the cloud that said plant buff row do?

 

Each row is divided into categories. Plant buffs effect crops/trees in some way according to their award. What each row awrds, can be seen if you hover over it.

We are willing to continue trying until you understand our answers. Pumpkin Jam gives a crop harvest buff, an Owl pet gives an EP buff, the Christmas 2014 Cloud Row is a breeding buff by decreasing the time until maturing.

I won't close the thread at this time, if you are willing to persist with us.
