I am only undercutting, when I REALLY need the CCs and want to be sure, that I am selling promptly.

Back to topic: No great skips on the fish or frogs, but almost all mammal breedings gave me great skips.
I am quite happy, what I have achieved, even when I would have liked to get the salamander, but I ran out of PF.
So .. all in all good results for me. Will redo my farm from tomorrow onwards.

    Happy Farming

I don't undercut either, not because I find it morally outrageous, just because I can't bring myself to sell something that took so much effort for me to either grow on my own or make the CCs to be able to buy, for less than I feel I want for it, lol. xD Usually my listings are 5 or so pages back, depending on whether the price I want is realistically going to be gotten and how big the lots selling in front of me are. I sold my excess frogs at the highest listed price for this event (at the time I listed, anyway), even tho I was the last listings on 20 pages, because I was the only one selling in lots of 100 (everything else was 10s and 20s). Took a day or so, but I got my price:music:.

I did the whole thing on both farms, partly because I didn't have time to sit and figure how much PF to use to get the minimum of prizes I really wanted, and partly because I have a hard time resisting those red pens:p:wuerg:. Now I'll have to regroup, do whatever FSQs I have left for PF, and mill what I can, and hope they'll give us some really good PF rewards in the next event or 2 to make up for the hosing they've given us the last 2 breeding events-.-. That being said, skips weren't great, but they weren't terrible either. Did get a Tiki monkey from regulars on bear, which was awesome. I agree with whoever felt that mammals seem to have been better for skips than amphibians and reptiles. :) edit: not reptiles, silly me, fish:p. Doh!

Despite my best efforts at resisting I caved in and did the event. It cost 2 million CC on quests to get PF and had to buy a 150 PF pack but the results are fantastic. Those pens are so beautiful, bringing a glorious splash of color to the farm. Especially on the island where the crab III, tiki totem III and shark III sit in a little cluster of their own getting up to all kinds of mischief. Can't stop admiring them so no regrets .... we will get lured in somehow .... every time. -.-

cheeepcheap, many here remember when you first appeared in the strategy thread and how you were beginning your farm. We are so happy for you and proud of you too. You did it!
This farm has done three steps.

Thank you everyone for sharing thoughts and feelings regarding "undercutting" in the markets here. Carrying on with One-Two always seems to lead to something. :inlove:
    • Many farms were set up over time with the intent of assisting others in selling or buying goods. We could learn together quite efficiently and effectively if we were able to see the same picture. Use of the word "undercutting" never occurred. (I have said that over time, continuous trading in the market will lead to the developing of a marketing personality. One becomes aware of different personalities and consciously or unconsciously use them.)
    • I've seen her offers more than 5 pages back too and have seen them disappear in a matter of days too. I like this nice and relaxed style that is knowledgeable and an obvious demonstration of both patience and practice and skill.
    • She says: "Took a day or so, but I got my price." This farm will do this also BUT there are times it does not have days and days and weeks in order to sell say 34,000 bees and get a decent return after taking the risk of not selling for a long long time. And sellers were happy when their bees sold at 400, 500, 600, 700, 1,200 and yet some are furious when I sell them in whatever quantity I choose at 9,000 when the low on the market is over 12,000. pppppsssssssst ... call it whatever you wish, I call it strategy!
    • How well I understand this philosophy having had exactly -0- ccs countless times. REALLY need? or REALLY want? OR want? OR just foolin around? OR executing a premeditated plan? OR so happen to acquire CCs by being vengeful toward another player?
    • Mooboy we have been strategy buddies for years now and I always think of you. We have never discussed "undercutting." As always, you state the obvious so very eloquently. Truly you are a gentleman and a scholar. But I can say the same thing: The game markets are not always a friendly place so .... (Mooboy I'm going to try and say the rest very nicely because of you) ....GET USE TO IT OR GET OUT OF THE MARKET!
    • There is a technique I do not like and have very very rarely practiced it and that is market manipulation in this game. A little froggie (or chicken or duck or donkey) inside me always whispers: maybe that is not such a good thing to do.
 Oh noo! There are 68 different animal feeds. The farm invested in them all  And now I want to list as the low on ALL 68 of them again. 8) But my friends here might think I was undercutting. Boooo hoohooohoooooo:cry: I'll just look at them in my barn

Best wishes to all still working the event.

One-Two, I have a question: Why would this farm be able to buy a shark in the market?

Well i did buy the big PF package didnt finisch the event got the basic penn out of the event
The rest of the PF i save for the Cat breeding also keeping the mill 24/7 producing only PF
Aldo i di like this kind of events i for still think the costs are to high for players like myself there is no other way to get PF
Buying or producing or wheel of fortune with only 1 quest left in the Coop
Would be nice if there where more ways possible

You know how you could watch how the farm controlled the apple market for months? Remember the times the farm would drag the market in half with only the intent to buy? And then let the market rise while doing something else and come back only to sell. That is an example of market manipulation. To engage in the practice a couple of times I can live with. It is the deliberate setting of a trap for the unsuspecting to fall into and take their goods at an unreasonable price again and again and again and again.

Remember I told you in advance what I was doing. I knew you could see and understand. The reasons I showed you are because:
    1. I truly believe that you would not abuse the knowledge for self gain.
    2. I knew you would use it for self protection and keep from falling into such a trap others attempt to set.

I got Red Anjou tree from the mystery seedlings. :D My first. This event was no bad after all. Got good rewards - hippo, red anjou, another flammingo, & in the process unlocked baha manufactory, 61 stars less for Arboretum, invested in cats & others.

Undercutting is a two-edged saw. It can hurt both sides & most often if one continues in undercutting, he or she would be the one who is most hurt. There is always another player who is more intelligent than you & if he wants to unload his goods at a stretch, then you might become the scapegoat buying all his listing & after sometime, you might not be able to put everything to sale in a profitable price.

Thinking hard.......2 reasons 1)Initially the sharks that make appearance in the market are low priced. so you can buy & sell them just a few times. After that it price drops. 2) It has good EV & can be used to upgrade animal trophy. I still have the last 1 % pending. 3) Can be used to deposit in the FSQ for the latest warehouses or any other FSQ requiring animals.....Can't think of any other reasons else right now. I don't know why broke farm would buy it because, it might already have upgraded the trophy or the upgradation is not necessary as it does not usually play the junk event unless & until its necessary to do so.

    Now how many marks did I get 10/10 ? 5 stars ?

    Hail Queen Meba !
We Vikings never abuse & nor can abused !
    :pxD

You can add me to that list, I won't buy unless I know for sure that it will sell. And only at reasonable price. For instance I bought fishes around 1500-2000 CCs initially & latter on on last day around 4500 CCs - but not to a great extent. So even if I sold above 5000 CCs, it would be a profit. Most of the initial gains is 1: 3 or 2.5. So even if I sell 1/3rd of what I buy I have made up my expenses & others are profits. Also there might be in distant future Fish Neon Event. So unsold might be sold some day.

But I will keep the 2 points in mind. Also the amount of time one can spend in market is also a deciding factor.

As Broke knows to Well that i have been playing the market for several years now.

Undercutting has it Benefits and Downfalls. As 12ss12 said it is based on other competitors in the same market as you. As undercutting has been around for about 6 years since Farmerama Began !!

Undercutting in Huge Bulks can be hard to shift, Than those with Small Bulks. I at times need to undercut when i predict the Prices will start to tumble.....so objective is to get as much as you can for them but needs to ensure it get sold real quick !!

When it comes to Selling to Markets i always mingle with other sellers. Reason for this as long it gets Sold within 7 Days. Some of the time there is no need to Undercut as i start selling stuff when other farmers are out or no stock to sell Therefore no need to undercut I Sell for the Highest Price Possible. This is Best Selling Point and Great Fun knowing you sold it at much higher price than you was hoping to sell it for. As it did for me recently selling Wooly Snout Cuckoos almost for 100K Each.

Basic Market Rule: Demands Stamps out undercutting. It Actually pushes up market price of items to be sold to the Markets. The only thing that cannot take advantage of this is the Newer Items. As it Takes time to increase Item Value of Newer Items !!

I have been snapping up fish from 1000 to 2000 CC but it only risen as far as 9000 CC. There will be demand for Fish Again in Future so no worries here just keep stocking up on Fishes ;)

I Keep on using my Traits and Trends Formula it works a Treat. Short, Medium and Long Term. Some items have been collect dust for so long i forget it is there lol I think need to give my Barn a good dusting :D

    Thanks for your answer Broke!
So you expect me to have morality? :eek:o_OxDxDxD Oh well, you be the judge of that [IMG] naaaaaahhhhhh just kidding.

It was amazing to watch you in action! I never thought it possible to drag a mkt in half like you did. I have never done anything like that and don't think I ever will.

I admit I have tried to drag down prices on carrots and some other stuff a couple of times to buy a little cheaper - but did not list anything thereafter - not that it makes a difference really...Oh nooooo! [IMG]That makes me a mkt manipulator :cry:

I must say that I see these price dragging attempts ALL the time EVERYWHERE on the mkt. (not like Broke's) It's the usual 1-10 lots of 1's-7's depending on the area listed in but listed at a substantial distance or gap from the price everyone else list at. Of course it can also be someone not knowing better...Sometimes I just snatch them up - other times I leave them and go back to check if I can get a bigger lot if someone undercuts. Then I didn't do it but I take advantage on someone else's attempt.
Anyway I always check the lowest and the highest price and the sizes of lots AND the first couple of pages before I list anything.

That said I do not feel bad undercutting if I feel I need to to get it sold but usually I sell in big bulks at higher prices because my stuff is wrapped in special Meba paper :p I am sometimes amazed by what people are willing to pay for that papero_OxD

It sure is. I spend more time on the mkt than I do farming and that is just fine with me because that is really what I find the most challenging and fun part of this game.

    Yeah! xD

If someone undercuts me with the same size of lot then war is declared! [IMG]

Awwwwwwwwww, farmer_broke.......thank you for those kind words!:):)

I follow You, Mooboy, and a paragraph out of meba's book, in Marketing. Placing on the first two, three pages or so, depending on the quantities listed, and buying when the first offers are way out of sync with the following ones.
It seems to be working, and has generated a quarter Billion CC's so far! So I want to thank you so much for all the advice you all offer to the rest of us so freely!!:inlove: I'm still learning and gleaning the gems from your posts!! You make this game interesting and challenging, and the learning is never-ending!! Yummy!!!:D

Edit: Just followed Oldman's post and bought Poo @ .98 - 1.54....and listed @ 5.25 using farmer_broke's strategy of 'storing', and am awaiting the next event to hopefully buy it back myself when the prices soar.
Gotta Go!! Mom wants the farm space!!o_O
