It depends on the artisan product, for CB (Carrot Bread) and ZAB (Zucchini Apple Bread) you need to eat them before you plant your seeds. For PJ (Pumpkin Jam) and CAC (Carrot Apple Chutney) you need to eat them before you harvest. Not sure about anything else you wanted to know. Ask away. :)

Sorry baw, but that's not quite right  all the items you mentioned should be eaten before harvest :)

The rule is this: If the product affects what you get, like more harvest (PJ, CAC and pineapple cake) or more EP (like CB, ZAB or easter marmalade) the bonus needs to be active when you harvest.

But if the bonus affects time (like valentines pot, church boquet or tiki timers) the product needs to be eaten before you plant or start the stable. But it doesn't matter if it runs out before the production has finished.

There is information in the general strategy thread within the strategy forum, as well as a couple other threads oriented toward newer players (a Farmerama guide or some such.. might have been archived, plus I made a thread about "goofs" (or maybe mistakes??) and one title "the big book of why" I think I put information on this in the "goofs" thread. The other has more general information. I think both of the latter threads are now in archives.

I have to go, but will try to find and post them when I can, if no one else does first.
