Alright so here is it is and I shall share with you what I like. Honestly... it's where2start? I love all kinds of music, being it Classical all the way to rap and through techno... I love all music as long as it doesn't have language or inappropriate themes.

The the thing is I go through multiple phases... so... lately I have been listening to a LOT of techno (trust me it is not as many people think, don't worry I shall create a separate thread on the topic to explain further what exactly "techno" is).

As the summer grows nearer, I have actually been transitioning to Rap. A few artists I listen to would include Lecrae, KB, Trip Lee, Tedashii, Viktory, Canon, Andy Mineo, etc... the list goes on.

Also classical music... love listening to a nice soothing tune that just fires up the imagination (especially great for writing or drawing)...

and honestly the list of genres and types of music goes on and on....

So... what do you enjoy and what would you like to hear from me, choose a genre you may be familiar with or not... and then I shall show you what I know or enjoy or heard from that type of genre of music.

Also... I have just got to admit... I really ENJOY Disney music... as a trumpet player myself I just love what kind of music the Disney Orchestra has put together... and recently been listening to Disney songs as well I think its fitting to just start with

Like you I like many genres. I was brought up on country & gospel. I gained a huge appreciation for classical - Mendelssohn, Bach, and Robert Ballard (French composer from the mid 1600's) are my favorites but certainly not exclusives. I like "old" country; the only modern country artist I like is Martina McBride.
I love ballads, folk music - especially for other countries - songs that tell of a people and a culture.
I enjoy pop music from my teens and prior; today it's called "Oldies".

I worked with a guy 20 years ago who said he only liked 2 kinds of music: Country and Western. I think my neighbor is the same way except her two are Rhythm and Blues.....

 

That's awesome pal, and aye I have to agree with you on a several accounts... lol I too am familiar with several of the artists you have mentioned, great composers and musicians... I also enjoy country however, the new "modern" country honestly just... well Idk... its just not as good as the O'l stuff if you know what I mean.

Let me just say that music, like any art form, is completely subjective. So what I might find amazing some one else might find boring or nauseating. That is totally cool and fine it's why there are so many different genres of music. Just want to make sure no one is offended by what is after all only one persons opinion.

I have a hugely eclectic taste in music and can usually find something I like in almost any genre and era.

I love old jazz, as in Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington era but really not a fan of the Dave Brubeck, Charlie Parker era. Just not my thing.
I'm a big fan of the Big Band era of music as well, Benny Goodman, The Dorsey Brothers, Harry James, Glenn Miller to name a few. Goes hand in hand with my love of old films as there were quite a few old classics that had great musical numbers in them without the movie actually being a "musical".

Love old school rock and roll, rockabilly and bluegrass music which all kind of comes under one genre for me. Anyone familiar with the Reverend Horton Heat? Awesome rockabilly band out of Texas.

I am a massive Beatles fan and pretty much that whole era of music although I like The Who and The Kinks way more than I do The Rolling Stones. Also love Motown from this era specifically Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson.

I like "classic" rock just fine some more than others. I've never been a fan of what later became "metal" music. Like Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath and so forth. Just not my thing. I despise and deplore Pink Floyd, pretty much the only thing I will absolutely make someone turn off. Trust me there is not an argument I haven't already heard defining their greatness so please spare me and yourself. You will not change my mind. I like the old disco in a very nostalgic kind of way. Meaning some of it's fun to dance to for a night but I wouldn't put it on to just listen to. Well maybe a Bee Gee song here or there but really that's it.

Now I was a teenager in the 80's so my opinions on most of this era are strong and based on teen emotions. I was a new wave/punk kid so all that big haired rock band crap annoyed me to no end. I still think most of it's crap but hey I've mellowed....really.

My punk segued very nicely into early 90's grunge and then it really all just went down hill late 90's with so much just being a lot of boring angst filled stuff that I was so not interested in. Sadly I'm not a fan of Rap, Hip Hop or Techno, just not my thing.

I haven't really listened to a lot of new stuff although I do quite like Imagine Dragons and Adele is awesome.

I'm also a fan of classic Disney musicals. This is my favorite.

I have found that my likes and dislikes are more about individual artists and songs. I listen to some songs from one person or composer that I think the CD is going to develop a hole in it, while others I don't listen to if I can help it. I suspect most people are like that; we like particular genres but that doesn't mean EVERY song grabs us.
I too love listening to Louis Armstrong though I'm not much into most jazz, R&B, etc. It's not a dislike but rather I haven't really met anyone to "introduce" me to it. I worked with a lady from Russia who gave me a huge appreciation for classical music; her favorite composer was Tchaikovsky and I like many of his works but have grown to enjoy Bach much more. It's not that one is better or worse than another, but as you said it is a personal taste.
Memories are tied up in music. Elton John is not one of my favorite singers but I can not hear 'Bennie & the Jets' without fond memories of a trip my wife and I took to Yosemite one weekend. The two are inseparable though I think I only heard that silly song only once during the drive. Same with songs from a first dance, a date, a moment with my kids ('Doo Waa Ditty' is something one of my sons and I have memories from while camping - the situation was silly but it was a bonding moment).
Being able to think about some of these brings so many memories and emotions back. Thanks, Jio, for starting this.

You have to admit...the musicals are awesome as well...One of my favorite musicals is "My Fair Lady" with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison. Also, probably the only movie that will make me cry from the heart is "Phantom of the Opera", starring Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum. Can you believe he actually sang that!?! And the organ music from the overture...its a glorious and powerful piece of music. Music of the Night?

I don't really hate anything...but it comes close with heavy metal rock. I will not even call it music... as for rock, I don't enjoy listening to in general. However... there are some classics and personal favs that I cant resist. I still love the "King of Rock 'n Roll", need I even utter his name? I also like some of Bob Seger and (Stray Cats if you can believe it) God help their poor hair-dos.

Off topic for a moment...one of my cats is sitting on my computer desk being annoying and lovable!! Why at the same time She is just sitting there in front of my monitor meowing happily and making me strain to see what I am writing ...Silly kitty! But I love her.

So unfortunate, but I respect your preferences.

We all understand that rule, however an embedded video doesn't lead to any external pages.
I've seen other teams giving this same reason in other forums and in the end they let users post videos (as long as they don't contain any kind of advertisment nor go against the other forum rules: violence, sex, religion...)
A couple examples:

Spanish thread

 

Embedded videos may not directly link to other sources, but at the end of the video there are other links that we have no control over.
How other fora interpret the rules is not for debate on the EN forum.
Therefore the decision stands.

 

MY two cents: This is a really nice idea for a thread. I believe if the game rules object to YouTube or other links we can abide by that. I'm sure people know how to find videos or MP3/4s... Gee, even I can do that (I hope you all are duly impressed - it's no big deal for most but it looks like a super power to me when people can do it! )

I would prefer having to do the tiny bit of leg work to find a video or song on my own that might be mentioned here than to possibly see this thread shut down. Again, my two cents....

I second that BeeDance! It's easy enough to google a band or song name. When I stopped to think about it the rule is a good one. Links do lead to other places and often not one I was expecting.

So let's get back to the fun topic of music.

This reminds me of the line from "The Blues Brothers" when they crash the country bar and pretend to be the band that was booked for the gig. Dan Ackroyd asks the bartender what kind of music they have in the bar and she replies. "We have both kinds...Country and Western".

I'm from Texas so by all rights I should like C&W but I actually like very little of it. Maybe it was a form of rebellion when I was a kid or something since I was pretty much forced to watch Hee Haw, The Porter Wagoner Show and The Barbara Mandrel show. In all fairness I now like some of that music in that I like Buck Owens and Dolly Parton still can't stand Barbara Mandrel though.

I do love Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dwight Yokum , Hank Williams Sr. and Patsy Cline. Then I like a hodgepodge of songs by various people but all of it old school Country. What they call Country music now is so very close to Pop music as to not make much difference.

I do love bluegrass & rockabilly music though and some might classify that as Country.

 

Aye that's totally understandable, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, recognize both artists...

I also like "O'l School-Rock" or music from well a wee bit from the 60's, but I like 70's-80's music...

again the styles of music or genres varies by a HUGE amount... recently I, like Griff, have been listening to a lot of Christian Rap (it does exist).

I can't say I much care for rap, although I could carry the tune if not the tempo.

I love Patsy Cline. Dolly Parton once said something to the effect that country peaked with Patsy. I enjoy Hank Sr's music but can't stand the howling Hank Jr calls music. I know there are some who think he's great and that's fine.
I love the Statler Brothers, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Lynn Anderson, most things from that era. Earl Scruggs, Don Gibson ('Oh Lonesome Me'), Ricky Van Shelton ("Statue of A Fool").
I too grew up with the Beatles, Elvis (hated him in high school because my girlfriend swooned over him), The Who, Guess Who (anyone remember the dumb jokes with those two groups? - '"Guess Who's coming to town." "Who?" "No Guess Who" - ya had to be there and at that silly age I suppose), CCR, Mo Town, Little Peggy March, Belamy Brothers, the Beach Boys (now known as the Beach Geezers), lots of others.
Later it was Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Kansas, Blondie....
Then I got old and everything I liked is now "Oldies" or "Classic Rock"/Classic Country".

I miss the days of "Three Wheels on My Wagon" (New Cristy Minstrels), "Hello Mudda, Hello Fadda", Ray Stevens (I love "The Bricklayer's Song" and "I'm My Own Grandpa")...

I enjoy Patti Sandi ("Della Via Rosa" is one of my favorites). She has a HUGE vocal range - I think I heard it's over 3 1/2 octaves! I can almost squawk out part of one octave, or at least hit between the notes (aka singing out of tune).

I'm really not sure how my love for Classical spawned from that background but stranger things have happened in my life...

I think one of the things I appreciate in music is the talent of others that I will never have, especially vocal and violin/fiddle. But then artists need an audience and I AM good at that!

 

Alan Sherman did "Hello Mudda, Hello Fadda"...scary that I know that. Not that I thought you were saying it was Ray Stevens I'm just providing some of the worthless trivia I keep stored in my little grey cells.

I'm very familiar with Ray Stevens and his funny songs have you ever listened to or heard of Tom Lehrer? A bit more intellectual perhaps than Ray Stevens but some very funny songs. The Hunting Song and The Masochism Tango are two of my favorites.

I also like a lot of the old school country songs but I lean more towards the "southern rock" and what they labeled singer/songwriters in the 70's, Eagles, James Taylor, Carole King, Jackson Browne to name a few. I really like the Charlie Daniels Band as well as I'm a big fan of the fiddle. Lot's of fun to dance to that kind of stuff.

I do like blues but I tend to go more Stevie Ray Vaughan style than BB King. I was very fortunate to get see Stevie Ray play with his band in a club in Austin, Texas back in the day. He was a true phenomena on stage. RIP Stevie

 

Yes he did, and no I didn't mean to imply Ray Stevens did - he would have been just a child when Alan did those two songs (remember the second version the year after the first?)
I'll check Tom Lehrer - sounds familiar but I can't place him (senility setting in?)

I like Peter Schickele and his humor with classical works: PDQ Bach is probably his most famous. He does a great job with Beethoven's 5th Symphony with sportscasters giving a play-by-play action of the orchestra versus the conductor. Even if you're not a classical fan it is hilarious.

'Rainy Night in Georgia' by Brook Benton is one of my favorites. I really don't know what genre that is: Blues, R&B, just don't know. I know I like it.

Lois Armstrong was one I loved hearing and still like seeing in old movies. I remember him telling a true story about when he was a little boy: His momma or grandma or aunt said, "Louis go take this bucket down to the creek and fetch me some water." "Yes, mam."
Just as he put the bucket in the water (this was in south Louisiana by the way), two big eyes came out of the water. He dropped the bucket and ran back to the porch. The lady heard him dancing all over the porch, came out and asked, "Honey child, where's my water?"
"There's a alligator down there!!!"
"Honey go get me the water. That 'gator's more 'scared of you than you is of him!"
I love Louis' response: "Well if he is then that water ain't fit to drink!"
